Job Title: Director of Nursing

Basic Purpose: The Director of Nursing’s responsibility is to ensure the provision of quality nursing care on a 24-hour basis to the residents of the Woodlands in accordance with Federal, State and local standards and regulations.
Job Summary: Directs the licensed and non-licensed staff who provides health care and nursing services to residents on a 24-hour, 7 day per week basis. Perform administrative duty’s which may include, but are not limited to developing and implementing a department budget and preparing reports for higher level management. Performs other appropriate related and unrelated assigned duties as required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; successful completion of a West Virginia state-approved Licensed Nursing program, a BSN or Masters Degree in nursing related field preferred
Licensure/Certification: Current West Virginia Nursing license; current CPR & First- Aid certification
Experience: Preferred 10 years nursing experience, 5 years supervisory experience, 3 years in assisted living
Zero Tolerance: Successfully pass a background and drug test.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership:
- Accountable for nursing compliance, excellence, and delivery of resident care services in adherence with Woodlands’, local, state, and federal regulations
- Support and promote the company Mission Statement.
- Report to the Administrator all resident care activities, personnel issues, staffing patterns and other relevant topics.
- Encourage staff autonomy by building trust and support.
- Commend, counsel and discipline all Health Care nurses and aides
- Performs Staff coaching/disciplinary actions as needed.
- Perform staff evaluations which reflects fair and unbiased judgment of skills and performance.
- Attend all appropriate meetings.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned by the Administrator.
Staff Organization:
- Establish staffing levels
- Suggest changes to policies and procedures for Health Care, including nursing, activities, social services, medical records, etc.
Staff Development:
- Assure, through management oversight, that staff follows all policies, procedures and health and safety standards, as well as OHFLAC regulations.
- Coordinate the orientation of all staff, document the orienting process. Ensure all training is in compliance with regulatory agency requirements.
- As needed, conduct In-Service trainings to support changing resident needs.
- Train all staff on techniques developed to maintain resident independence and higher functioning.
- Through observation evaluate staff skills and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Promote and elicit quality improvement suggestions from staff and advance to the Medical Director and/or Administrator.
Resident Care:
- Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each resident in the delivery of services to them. Interact with residents in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, neat, and clean environment; report environmental deficiencies to the Administrator.
- Fully understand all aspects of resident’ rights.
- Study and analyze techniques in resident care, which will motivate and move residents to greater independence as well as higher level of functioning.
- Ensure the following is completed by RN Supervisor upon admission:
- Conduct an assessment on all new residents on the date of admission.
- Coordinate a specific care plan for each resident within 48 hours of admission.
- Complete resident care waiver, as necessary
- Ensure the following is completed by the RN Supervisor:
- Assess residents’ functional status, social, psychological and spiritual needs on an ongoing basis, but especially at move-in and after hospital stay.
- Ensure the following is completed monthly by RN Supervisor:
- Conduct an assessment on each resident monthly according to the regulations, family/MPOA of change in level of care
- Chart monthly nursing summary on each resident, including nursing activities, change in condition, medication changes, and other pertinent information.
- Conduct an assessment on each resident monthly according to the regulations. Notify Medical Director, family/MPOA of change in level of care.
- Chart a monthly nursing summary on each resident including nursing activities, change in condition, medication changes, and other pertinent information. Train and monitor all designated staff relative to charting guidelines. Maintain in resident files all documentation pertaining to the progress of these issues.
- Communicate with the Medical Director, physician, and family members of any changes in resident’s condition.
- Monitor the medication ordering and delivery system daily to assure safety and integrity of the system. Monitor nurse compliance with shift narcotic counts.
- Complete resident care waiver as necessary.
Compliance:
- Follow established safety regulations and use equipment and supplies in a safe manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of all resident or employee information as required
- Audit MARS, new physician orders, and nurse charting practices weekly to assure compliance with regulations.
- Follow up and provide appropriate interventions on all incident reports within 48-hours and forward a copy to the Medical Director and Administrator daily, as well as to appropriate state regulatory agency within the specific timeline.
- Conduct weekly review of all emergency calls by residents for assistance and complete a review of the treatment and handling of each emergency by staff and review weekly in group huddle meeting. Conduct additional staff training as warranted by the handling of an emergency.
- Ensure completion of all reports of incidents and fax to OHFLAC according to regulations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Requires extensive physical effort; standing, grasping, balancing, carrying, bending, lifting, stretching, stooping, pulling and pushing.
