We are seeking an experienced Resident Engineer (RE) to support major transit infrastructure construction projects in the Seattle region. Responsibilities
The Resident Engineer (RE) will manage and direct RE staff (CMC/DBPM) in performance of tasks as described in applicable construction manuals and project documents. Responsibilities and support services include, but are not limited to:
- Assure and document training that all CMC/DBPM staff understand and meet subject contract requirements.
- Act as the focal point for all correspondence received from and sent to the project's contractor. Respond to contractor correspondence with assistance from project staff.
- Conduct weekly construction progress meetings and other project-related meetings.
- Assign CMC/DBPM inspectors to cover contractor work activities when work is being performed and ensure inspector performance and documentation requirements are met.
- Monitor contractor compliance with project safety programs and ensure that all personnel comply with established safety policies and procedures.
- Identify potential change issues and develop, track, and manage change notices, change orders, and contract modifications in accordance with construction manuals.
- Review, comment, and approve or recommend action regarding:
- Inspector Daily Reports (IDRs)
- Contractor progress payment applications
- Contractor construction schedules
- Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
- Safety and Security certification submittals
- Complete required contract closeout procedures, including documentation required for transition from construction to operations.
- Bachelor's Degree in:
- Civil Engineering
- Construction Management
- Architecture
- Engineering-related discipline
- Minimum 10 years of construction experience, including:
- At least 5 years serving as Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, or equivalent
- Experience managing inspection staff
- Experience administering public construction contracts
- Demonstrated experience supporting:
- Transit infrastructure
- Transportation projects
- Heavy civil construction
- Strong knowledge of construction contract administration procedures.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Experience managing contractor communications and documentation.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Prior experience supporting projects for Our client.
- Experience with:
- Light rail systems
- Transit stations
- Rail infrastructure
- Utility relocation projects
- Familiarity with public agency construction manuals.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Certifications such as:
- CCM (Certified Construction Manager)
- PMP (Project Management Professional)
- OSHA 30
- The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving machinery & mechanical parts, uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to loud noise, and outside weather conditions.
- The physical requirements must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Intermittent unassisted sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, stooping, crawling, pushing and lifting is required. Must be able to walk and/or stand for prolonged periods of time for at least eight hours per day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move light equipment up to 50 pounds without assistance. Must be alert to equipment in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, ability to walk on uneven ground while physically maneuvering construction sites, ability to work in extreme temperatures or humidity, and potentially work at heights.
- Possession of a valid state of residence driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Daily travel to and from construction sites, generally within 100 miles from the home office is expected. Short term, out of town, assignments may be required. Long term, out of town, assignments may be required, with advance notice of planned dates.
- May be required to work protracted and irregular hours to meet client's needs, including nights, overtime and weekends.
