This is a hands-on position that combines scale operations with general labor duties, including sorting, grading, processing, baling, boxing, and handling recyclable materials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist the Location/Scale Manager with daily scale and recycling facility operations.

Ensure accurate weights, material descriptions, and grades for all inbound and outbound loads.

Operate ferrous and nonferrous scales in accordance with company procedures.

Verify scale tickets for accuracy, including customer information, material type, weights, gross and tare weights when applicable, and required photographs.

Follow company procedures for all scale transactions, including policies regarding manual entries.

Identify and properly grade various types of ferrous and nonferrous metals.

Ensure materials are properly sorted and unloaded in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Assist with processing, sorting, grading, baling, and boxing recyclable materials.

Perform hands-on material handling and safely use appropriate equipment to move heavier materials.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Location/Scale Manager.
Qualifications and Requirements

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Two (2) years of experience in the scrap metal recycling industry preferred.

Knowledge of and ability to identify various ferrous and nonferrous metals preferred.

Ability to accurately follow procedures and maintain attention to detail when completing scale transactions.

Ability to perform physical, hands-on work in a recycling facility environment.

Ability to safely use equipment necessary to move and process materials.

Must be dependable and able to work effectively as part of a team.

Must be able to successfully complete company-required pre-employment screening, including a drug test and background check.
Physical Requirements amp; Work Environment

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.

Ability to frequently bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements.

Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull materials and equipment as required to perform essential job duties.

Ability to safely perform hands-on work around scrap metal, machinery, vehicles, and material-handling equipment.

Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.

Work environment may include exposure to dust, dirt, noise, and other conditions commonly associated with a scrap metal recycling facility.
