What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant – Affordable Housing Portfolio position at Foshee Residential Management Company?
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant with a strong background in Low‑Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), USDA and HUD‑regulated programs. This role is responsible for financial reporting accuracy, regulatory compliance, audit readiness, and the supervision, training, and development of 1–3 accounting staff members supporting an affordable housing portfolio.
· Oversee and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for LIHTC, USDA and HUD properties
· Ensure compliance with HUD & USDA regulations, LIHTC program requirements, and GAAP
· Oversee journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and chart of accounts
· Support HUD, USDA and LIHTC audits, including preparation of schedules and responses to auditor and regulatory agencies
· Monitor reserve accounts, surplus cash calculations, and restricted funds
· Assist with budget preparation and variance analysis
· Maintain documentation required for regulatory reporting and internal controls
Supervision & Training· Supervise, review, and approve work performed by 1–3 Property Accountants
· Train staff on LIHTC, HUD compliance requirements, and internal accounting procedures
· Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with established policies and reporting deadlines
· Provide ongoing coaching, technical guidance, and performance feedback
· Assist with onboarding and professional development of accounting staff
· Identify training needs, process improvements, and internal control enhancements
Team Leadership & Collaboration· Serve as a technical accounting resource for property management and internal teams
· Coordinate with accounting staff and property management on compliance matters and reporting deadlines
· Assist with accounting process improvements and system or workflow enhancements
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
· 3 - 5 years of accounting experience, including substantial LIHTC, USDA and HUD program exposure
· Demonstrated experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff
· Strong understanding of affordable housing regulations and compliance requirements
· Financial statement review and audit support experience
· Proficiency in Excel and accounting software (Yardi, MRI, RealPage, or similar preferred)
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines
· CPA or CPA candidate
· Public Accounting experience preferred
· Experience with HUD programs such as Section 8, Section 202, Section 811, or HOME; USDA
· Affordable housing or real estate portfolio accounting experience
· Experience in an online or remote working environment.
· Proven ability to train staff in technical accounting and compliance matters
