Yard Mover / Box truck driver

Position Summary

Fortune Logistics is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Yard Mover / Box Truck Driver. This combined position is responsible for moving trailers and containers within the warehouse yard and completing local delivery assignments using a box truck.

Candidates must be comfortable performing both yard operations and local delivery duties based on daily business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Yard Operations (Switcher Truck)

• Move trailers, containers, and chassis safely within the company yard.
• Position trailers at designated loading docks and parking locations.
• Connect and disconnect trailers, air lines, and electrical lines.
• Perform proper coupling and uncoupling procedures.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of yard trucks, trailers, and related equipment.
• Verify trailer and container numbers before each movement.
• Maintain accurate records of trailer locations and yard movements.
• Communicate with warehouse staff and dispatch regarding equipment placement.
• Follow all yard traffic rules, speed limits, and safety procedures.
• Report equipment damage, unsafe conditions, or mechanical issues immediately.

Box Truck Deliveries

• Operate a box truck for local pickups and deliveries.
• Review delivery schedules, routes, and customer instructions.
• Inspect cargo and confirm that freight is properly secured before departure.
• Verify shipment quantities and obtain signed delivery documents.
• Load or unload freight using a pallet jack, liftgate, or other equipment when required.
• Communicate delivery status, delays, damages, or customer concerns to dispatch.
• Maintain accurate bills of lading, delivery receipts, inspection reports, and mileage records.
• Provide professional and courteous service to customers.
• Keep assigned vehicles clean and in safe operating condition.
• Perform other transportation or warehouse-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• CDL Class A or Class B is preferred and may be required depending on the assigned vehicle.
• Valid DOT Medical Card required.
• Previous yard jockey, trailer spotting, box truck, or commercial driving experience preferred.
• Ability to safely back trailers into loading docks and confined spaces.
• Knowledge of vehicle inspections, cargo securement, and general DOT safety requirements.
• Ability to use GPS, electronic logs, mobile applications, and delivery paperwork.
• Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
• Must be dependable, punctual, safety-conscious, and able to work independently.
• Ability to pass a background check, motor vehicle record review, and drug screening.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to enter and exit trucks repeatedly throughout the shift.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, and work outdoors for extended periods.
• Ability to connect air and electrical lines and raise or lower trailer landing gear.
• Ability to operate pallet jacks, liftgates, and other delivery equipment.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds when required.
• Ability to work in varying weather, traffic, warehouse, and yard conditions.

Working hours: 7AM-7PM or 8AM-6PM, depending on seasonal volume.

2-3 days delivery, rest yard move job.

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
