Job Summary:
Provides compassionate spiritual and emotional support to terminally ill patients and their families, including grief counseling after a patient’s passing. Works effectively with individuals of diverse religious backgrounds and cultures. Develops, oversees, and enhances bereavement programs, including workshops and social activities, to support families throughout the hospice experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct spiritual assessments and provide nondenominational counseling to hospice patients and families.
- Support emotional, mental, social, and spiritual needs; assist families with grief and community resources.
- Respect cultural and spiritual practices; perform faith-specific duties as appropriate.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team and maintain accurate documentation.
- Participate in trainings, quality initiatives, and uphold patient confidentiality.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
- Compassionate, calm, and empathetic in stressful situations.
- Basic computer proficiency and documentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to travel for patient and site visits.
- Regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands/fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and iPad, with or without reasonable accommodations.
