Overview
The Assistant to the Director of Education plays a vital role in supporting the strategic development and operational management of educational programs within Fortis College. This position involves collaborating closely with senior leadership to enhance curriculum quality, oversee administrative functions, and foster an environment of academic excellence. The ideal candidate will possess strong management skills, experience in proprietary higher education, and a passion for advancing educational initiatives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Academic Leadership & Faculty Support

  • Ensure faculty and staff understand their duties and complete daily, weekly, and term tasks on time.
  • Assign projects, monitor progress, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain required records and files.
  • Support accreditation readiness, visits, reports, self-studies, program approvals, and revisions.
  • Plan and document advisory board meetings, faculty meetings, and trainings.
  • Observe and evaluate instructional staff at least twice per year and address performance issues.
  • Onboard and train new faculty; support ongoing professional development.
  • Maintain up-to-date course outlines, syllabi, and lesson plans.
  • Lead curriculum updates, new program development, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Student Support & Retention

  • Address student concerns, attendance issues, and behavioral problems promptly.
  • Counsel students as needed and document interactions.
  • Oversee clinical/externship/internship experiences.
  • Monitor academic progress, review grade reports, and advise students not meeting standards.
  • Administer transfer credit evaluations.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to student retention.
  • Participate in orientations, graduations, and admissions-related activities.

Registrar & Student Records Management

  • Oversee all functions of the Registrar’s Office, including processes, procedures, and systems.
  • Supervise academic support staff, student records, and bookstore personnel.
  • Manage student academic records, data entry, attendance, grades, transcripts, and graduation processing.
  • Interpret academic policies, monitor student standing (probation, Dean’s/President’s List), and resolve record-related issues.
  • Conduct registration for new and continuing students and ensure proper documentation (transcripts, immunizations, etc.).
  • Ensure accuracy, security, and compliance of all student records.
  • Coordinate with other departments to maintain consistent academic processes.
  • Prepare annual and regulatory reports (e.g., IPEDS) and various statistical analyses.

Institutional Support & Administration

  • Support the development and updating of the Institutional Effectiveness Plan.
  • Represent the school on committees and in external partnerships and articulation agreements.
  • Communicate academic policies to faculty and students.
  • Participate in strategic planning tasks such as scheduling, enrollment projections, and facility analysis.
  • Provide administrative support to the Dean and Associate Dean.
  • Adhere to and support all school policies; ensure customer service and a student-first culture.
  • Supervise two or more employees.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Skills, Competencies, and Qualifications:

  • Proven expertise in academic operations and personnel management, supported by résumé, references, and credentials.
  • Strong ability to hire, train, and supervise department chairs, faculty, and academic staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficient in Microsoft Office and student information systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in postsecondary education management, public education, or corporate training.
  • Prior teaching experience and demonstrated competency in curriculum development, assessment, instructional quality, faculty development, and performance evaluation.
  • Experience with student retention strategies, outcomes assessment, and effective problem-solving.
  • Bachelor degree required; Master in Education or Ph.D. preferred. Additional certifications or licenses may be required based on regulatory standards.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $67,000.00 per year
