Senior Technical Writer (IT Operations)
Location: Providence, RI (Hybrid)
Duration: 12 Months
We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Writer to create, maintain, and enhance IT operational documentation for a long-term contract opportunity. The ideal candidate will have strong experience documenting IT infrastructure, support processes, and operational procedures while collaborating with technical teams and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop, maintain, and improve IT documentation, including:
o Knowledge Base Articles
o Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
o Technical Procedures
o Operational Runbooks
o Quick Reference Guides
· Create documentation supporting:
o IT Helpdesk & End-User Support
o Data Center Operations
o Network Infrastructure & Operations
· Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), IT teams, and service owners to gather and translate technical information into clear, user-friendly documentation.
· Review and update existing documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with current environments.
· Organize documentation into searchable knowledge repositories to improve operational efficiency and knowledge sharing.
· Develop documentation standards, templates, naming conventions, and quality assurance processes.
· Manage document lifecycle activities including version control, periodic reviews, approvals, and retirement of outdated content.
· Ensure documentation is easy to understand for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Required Qualifications
· Proven experience as a Senior Technical Writer supporting IT Operations, Infrastructure, Service Management, Helpdesk, Data Center, or Networking environments.
· Strong ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise documentation.
· Experience with documentation platforms, knowledge management systems, collaboration tools, and document review/version control processes.
· Understanding of IT Service Management (ITSM), ticketing systems, operational support processes, and documentation governance.
· Excellent communication, interviewing, editing, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience working in Higher Education environments is a plus.
Work Schedule
· Hybrid role based in Providence, RI.
· Approximately 35 hours per week.
· Candidates should be available for scheduled meetings with SMEs and IT teams.
Pay: $40.00 - $45.00 per hour
