Summary
Responsible for the planning, design, and execution of structural engineering projects. Works with project teams from concept through construction, adapting plans to meet budget constraints, design requirements, and client needs. This position combines structural and civil engineering expertise, including building/structural analysis and design, structural design for civil infrastructure, and structural design supporting manufacturing and processing systems, and reports directly to a Group Leader.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide structural analysis and design for various structural systems for buildings, manufacturing and processing equipment, and heavy civil infrastructure.
- Analyze survey reports, geotechnical data, maps, and other relevant information to plan and design projects.
- Consider construction costs, environmental factors, and applicable codes/regulations in all project phases.
- Prepare and review engineering drawings, technical reports, feasibility studies, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Apply extensive knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and relevant codes (such as AISC, ACI, ASCE, IBC, and state/local regulations) in diverse project assignments.
- Select appropriate civil and structural systems to meet project requirements, site conditions, and performance criteria.
- Coordinate with multiple disciplines to integrate structural designs into overall project plans.
- Direct and mentor junior engineers, designers, and CADD technicians in both civil and structural tasks.
- Perform QA/QC reviews of design plans for accuracy, constructability, and compliance with applicable codes.
- Attend client and project meetings, present technical aspects, and provide clear communication throughout project execution.
- Conduct site visits for inspections, design verification, construction observation, and issue resolution.
- Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and support the construction administration process.
- Use AutoCAD/Civil 3D, structural analysis software (STAAD, RAM, or equivalents), and REVIT to produce high-quality design work.
- Ensure projects are completed within scope, on schedule, and on budget.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university (emphasis in structural engineering preferred).
- 7–10 years of structural design experience.
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil or Structural Engineering in the state of Louisiana.
- Strong leadership, communication, mentoring, and client relationship skills.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D, structural analysis software, and REVIT.
- Ability to obtain applicable safety certifications as required by project sites.
