As our Multisite Capacity & Freight Optimization Planner, you will orchestrate production capacity and outbound logistics across one or more manufacturing locations. As our Multisite Capacity & Freight Optimization Planner, you will orchestrate production capacity and outbound logistics across one or more manufacturing locations. You’ll partner closely with cross-functional teams to push throughput, visualize plans, and shape efficient truck routes that achieve the lowest cost per unit without sacrificing reliability or quality. This role reports to the Purchasing & Planning Manager with a dotted line to the Plant Manager(s) for the assigned site(s).
A Day in the Life
- Open your ERP-linked capacity model, scan MDI visual boards, and tune short- and long-range load plans.
- Distill plant-level analytics into weekly capacity and lead-time updates for leaders and internal customers.
- Translate signals like quote activity and sales bookings into forward-looking capacity scenarios within SIOP.
- Lock in daily outbound plans—route trucks, LTL, and contract freight—balancing budget targets and customer commitments.
- Review rate and margin performance, course-correct with carriers, and elevate dollar-per-mile utilization.
- Align with Purchasing to optimize inventory consumption, address OSMI, and uphold cycle-count accuracy of 96% .
- Build and maintain a standardized, ERP-connected capacity planning model for all division sites.
- Enable daily management via consistent MDI visual tools at each plant.
- Deliver weekly capacity and lead-time reporting grounded in plant data analytics.
- Contribute to SIOP to synchronize sales, inventory, and production for near- and long-term horizons.
- Use leading indicators (quotes, bookings) to anticipate and plan future load.
- Schedule outbound logistics across planned routes, LTL, and contracted carriers.
- Engineer freight plans that minimize unit freight cost while meeting customer expectations.
- Monitor pricing and margins vs. budgets and carrier agreements daily/weekly.
- Analyze weekly route utilization to maximize revenue per mile.
- Coordinate with Purchasing to ensure optimal material usage during production.
- Participate in OSMI reviews and drive mitigation actions.
- Apply ABC/XYZ segmentation to strengthen SIOP and materials strategies.
- Support corporate cycle counting practices to maintain 96% accuracy, including executing counts as assigned.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics, business, economics, or analytics (required).
- APICS CSCP or CPIM preferred (not required).
- 2 years in production planning within wood or metal product manufacturing.
- 1 year in logistics coordination, analytics, or administration.
- Exceptional analytical storytelling; able to communicate detailed plans clearly.
- Influence without authority across cross-functional leaders.
- Advanced Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
