JOB TITLE: Vending and Maintenance Technician

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Nutrition Services

 

FLSA: Non-Exempt

POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY
The Vending and Maintenance Technician is responsible for restocking, servicing, and performing preventative and routine maintenance on all vending machines located throughout the Fort Zumwalt School District. This role ensures machines remain fully stocked and operate efficiently for students and staff. Additionally, this position supports the
broader Student Nutrition department by transporting and delivering food, supplies, and equipment to district kitchens in a safe, hygienic, and timely manner.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in the maintenance and repair of vending machines or closely related mechanical/refrigeration equipment., strong problem-solving skills, proficiency in reading and following technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and instructions. and the ability to work independently with a high attention to detail and
excellent organizational skills. This person must have a valid driver’s license.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Vending Maintenance
1. Perform regular preventative maintenance to guarantee optimal equipment functionality and minimize downtime.
2. Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical, mechanical, and software-related malfunctions in vending units.
3. Repair or replace faulty components, including coin mechanisms, bill acceptors, drive motors, and refrigeration units.
4. Regularly clean and sanitize vending machines to maintain the highest standards of food hygiene.
5. Keep meticulous logs of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts inventory. Coordinate with external suppliers and vendors for parts procurement and technical support.
6. Serve as the primary liaison for school staff regarding machine issues and schedules; provide basic operational and troubleshooting guidance to building personnel.
7. Strictly adhere to all district safety protocols when handling electrical components and machinery.

 

Student Nutrition Delivery
1. Load, unload, and stock food, non-food, equipment, and supplies.
2. Organize food and non-food items to ensure food is delivered in a safe and timely manner.
3. Maintain documentation (receiving logs, vending receipts) to provide written support and/or convey information.
4. Maintain assigned vehicle (general vehicle maintenance) to ensure the safe operation and sanitation of the vehicle.
5. Assist kitchen managers in putting up products if needed.
6. Transport food and non-food items to various schools within the district and other off-campus locations in a timely manner.
7. Maintain inventory of food, supplies, and equipment.

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
1. Effectively communicate, in both verbal and written form, with administrators, staff, and the community as needed.
2. All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, SNS Director & Assistant Director and Vending Supervisor.
3. Maintain confidentiality of all student and staff-related information.

 

MENTAL DEMANDS
Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems, maintain highly confidential information; communicate clearly both orally and in writing, and/or ability to reason and make appropriate decisions.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position an employee will be required to walk, stand, kneel, bend, and reach for extended periods. This person will be required to have the manual dexterity to manipulate small components and tools for repairs. Occasionally lift and move heavy objects weighing up to 100 pounds.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Employment will be on an at-will basis for 12 months with two weeks’ vacation, beginning July 1, or from the time of employment for the duration of the school year with prorated vacation and/or personal leave. Each maintenance employee will be provided a work calendar showing the specific daily work schedule of the employee. The work
calendar may be modified by the Board of Education at any time, as needs dictate.
Eight and one-half hours (including a 30-minute non-paid lunch period) will constitute a workday. The Deputy Superintendent will establish a definite daily schedule.
The yearly salary will be disbursed in twenty-four (24) equal payments.

 

EVALUATION
End-of-the-year performance evaluations will occur annually per the provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of support staff personnel.
