JOB TITLE: Assistant Director of Student Nutrition Services
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Nutrition Services

POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY
The Assistant Director of Student Nutrition will assist the Director of Student Nutrition Services in the planning, operation, and evaluation of the Districts Food Service Program.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The Assistant Director of Student Nutrition Services will have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in food service. Supervisory experience is preferred. Must be a Registered Dietitian or exam eligible. Serv-Safe certified or ability to obtain certification is required. The Assistant Director must demonstrate thorough knowledge and experience with Microsoft programs and Google Suite.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Assist in the supervision of student nutrition employees and all food preparation for the District.
2. Conduct sanitation and food safety inspections of school kitchens with a detailed report of findings.
3. Assist in kitchen operations as needed.
4. Develop and implement marketing programs for the menus and a la carte items.
5. Create standardized recipes and menus in accordance with the USDA policy for the National School Lunch Program.
6. Develop District cycle menus as assigned by the Director of Student Nutrition Services.
7. Monitor product appearance, quality, and portion control.
8. Conduct product research and evaluation as assigned by the Director of Student Nutrition Services.
9. Train new managers on responsibilities and procedures for kitchen management.
10. Assist the Director of Student Nutrition Services in interviewing potential employees and evaluating management staff.
11. Participate in commodity forecasting, planning, and distribution.
12. Assist in maintaining the department budget including vending and coffee shops.
13. Oversee inventory control and detailed record keeping.
14. Assist schools in the ordering of groceries, milk, bread, small wares, disposable products and produce.
15. Maintain monthly production logs.
16. Prepare and maintain weekly meat/meat alternate and grain documentation in compliance with USDA requirements.
17. Maintain and update nutrition information and related content for the district website.
18. Assist the Director of Student Nutrition Services with the development and management of annual food and non-food bids and Requests for Proposals.
19. Ensure compliance with federal and state nutritional regulations.
20. Collaborate with district stakeholders regarding special dietary needs.
21. Oversee catering and special events; pricing and a la carte offering; and staff development and evaluation.
22. Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork and problem-solving.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
1. Maintain a neat and clean personal appearance and wear district uniforms at all times when performing duties.
2. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Nutrition Services.
3. Effectively communicate, verbally, and in written form, with administrators, staff, and the community as needed.
4. Maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
5. Maintain general vehicle maintenance of assigned district vehicle to ensure the safe operation of the vehicle.
6. Ensure vehicle cleanliness, organization, and rotate food product properly in and out of the vehicle.
MENTAL DEMANDS
An individual who holds this position must have strong verbal and written communication skills and good accounting ability, along with the ability to use Excel, Microsoft Word, and Google Suites. This employee must be able to make reasonable decisions in a high-stress environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The Assistant Director of Student Nutrition will frequently stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch This employee will occasionally lift or carry 50 pounds. Close vision ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods is required.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
This employee will work in an office, warehouse, school settings and is required to travel between district locations. Employee will occasionally drive and work in conditions of extreme heat or cold. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Employment will be on an at-will basis for 12 months with two weeks’ vacation, beginning July 1, or from the time of employment for the duration of the school year with prorated vacation and/or personal leave. The assistant director of student nutrition services will be provided a work calendar showing the specific daily work schedule of the employee.
The work calendar may be modified by the Board of Education at any time, as needs dictate.
Eight hours will generally constitute a workday. The Assistant Superintendent of Personnel will establish a definite daily schedule.
The yearly salary will be disbursed in twenty-four (24) equal payments.
EVALUATION
End of the year performance evaluations will occur annually per the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of support staff personnel.
