Job Description
Fort Worth Carrier Corporation is a dedicated carrier servicing Dillard's private fleet since 1980. Our fleet consists of Cummins powered T680 Kenworth tractors, dollies, yard trucks, various makes of dry van pup trailers, and service vehicles. We are hiring an experienced Class 8 Diesel Mechanic to perform maintenance and repairs on heavy‑duty tractors. This role focuses on keeping our fleet safe, compliant, and road‑ready through accurate diagnostics, timely repairs, and preventative maintenance.
This is a hands‑on position for mechanics with strong diesel engine, electrical, and DOT inspection experience.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair Class 8 diesel tractors
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled services
- Repair diesel engines, transmissions, clutches, brakes, suspension, steering, HVAC, and electrical systems
- Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance
- Troubleshoot ECMs and emissions systems (DPF, DEF, SCR)
- Use diagnostic OEM software and tools
- Complete repair documentation accurately
- Maintain shop safety and cleanliness
- Respond to breakdowns as needed
Requirements
- 5 years of Class 8 diesel mechanic experience
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines and heavy‑duty truck systems
- Ability to diagnose electrical and mechanical issues
- DOT inspection experience (required or preferred)
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred, not required)
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs

- Maintain Preventive Maintenance Schedule
- Diagnostics
- Diagnose all fleet maintenance issues
- Experience with OEM software for electronic diagnosis
- Identify source of malfunctions using a variety of testing equipment including electronic testing equipment
- Identify electrical issues and electronic troubleshooting
- ABS Service including diagnostics
- Emissions
- Diagnose and repair exhaust after treatment systems
- Repairs
- Follow policy and procedures designated to routinely repair all fleet-owned equipment
- Engine Repairs including transmissions and differentials
- Steering Mechanisms
- Air Conditioning System Repairs
- Brake replacement and repair
- Wheel replacement and repair including bearings
- Perform routine repair and maintenance to tractor safety systems including collision avoidance and collision mitigation
- Safety
- Safety oriented and completes required safety training
- Keeps work area and shop clean and clutter free
- Other Routine Duties
- Monitor inventory and notify shop manager to maintain proper inventory levels
- Some Fabrication and welding
- Enter electronic work orders and charge out parts
Preferred Qualifications
- ASE Diesel Certifications (T2–T8)
- Experience with Cummins, Detroit, Paccar, Volvo, or Freightliner
- Emissions and aftertreatment experience
- Fleet or transportation industry background
- Welding or fabrication experience
