Staff Accountant

Fort Orange Press is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our small, collaborative accounting and finance team. This newly created role offers strong visibility to leadership, long-term growth potential, and broad hands-on exposure across accounting, finance, and manufacturing operations. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the company. This hands-on role in a manufacturing environment offers the opportunity to take ownership of key accounting processes while contributing to broader areas such as payroll, budgeting, cost analysis, cash flow, and inventory.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in most aspects of the accounting and finance function. Maintain accurate financial records, including journal entries, general ledger activity, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including timely and accurate recognition of revenue, expenses, and accruals.
- Lead payroll processing with a third-party vendor.
- Support the preparation of financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and actual-to-budget variance analysis.
- Assist with inventory reporting, product costing calculations, project profitability analysis, cost controls, and manufacturing-related financial reporting.
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activity, including aging review and collection analysis.
- Maintain strong internal controls and assist with regulatory compliance, special projects, and other financial initiatives as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of accounting, finance, or related business experience.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Experience in a manufacturing company with strong costing skills.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close processes.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables.
- Working knowledge of GAAP and sound accounting practices.
- Experience in a printing-related company.
- Hands-on payroll processing experience preferred.
- Experience with financial systems, ERP/MIS platforms, or BI/reporting tools preferred.
