Job Summary: The substitute school custodian's job is to perform sanitary cleaning to ensure a safe and clean learning environment in the absence of the regular custodian. The substitute custodian reports to the Director of Maintenance or designee and the building administration.

Custodial Duties:

• Care of the building, equipment and furnishings under your care
• Safety, both inside and outside the building
• Cleanliness of the interior building and outside grounds
• Creating and maintaining goodwill with staff, public and students

Primary Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the building, equipment and furnishings under your control
• Responsible for the building keys assigned to you. Do not loan building keys to another person. The building should be locked except for authorized meetings and open only the areas necessary.
• Watch and correct hazards that could cause slips, trips and falls
• Keep playground and grounds areas free from broken bottles, trash, rubbish piles or any other hazards
• Remove snow and ice as necessary around entryways and outside steps
• Responsible for the overall cleanliness level in your assigned area
• Must be courteous and professional when communicating with staff, students and community
• Maintain high level of professionalism and confidentiality
• Will be expected to be a team member in the building, working closely with other building custodians and building staff
• Must present appropriate appearance by maintaining personal hygiene and dressing in clean uniforms during the school year
• Responsible for the efficient and effective use of supplies and equipment
• Complete required district trainings
• Flexibility is required to cover buildings in the district as requested
• Other duties as assigned
