Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver engaging band instruction aligned with state music standards
- Teach proper instrument technique, music theory, and ensemble performance skills
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs, including gifted students and those needing additional support
- Assess student progress regularly and maintain detailed records
- Direct band rehearsals, focusing on musicianship, intonation, and collaborative performance
- Prepare ensembles for concerts, festivals, and community performances
- Foster a supportive ensemble culture that values teamwork and musical excellence
- Build positive relationships with students and encourage musical growth
- Provide instrument care guidance and maintenance support
- Communicate regularly with families about student progress and musical opportunities
- Mentor students in discipline, responsibility, and self-expression through music
- Maintain and organize music equipment and instruments
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and other specialists to integrate music across the curriculum
- Participate in school events, performances, and assemblies
- Contribute to professional development and stay current with best practices in music education
- Excellent musicianship and technical instrumental skill
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Creative lesson planning and adaptability
- Patience, enthusiasm, and passion for music education
- Ability to inspire and motivate young learners
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Education or a related field
- Valid state of Iowa teaching license/certification in music education
- Two to three years of experience teaching and directly band performances preferred
- Knowledge of elementary music pedagogy and child development
- Ability to manage classroom behavior and create an inclusive learning environment
- Strong knowledge of and proficiency in various musical instruments
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers and school administrators in a PLC.
- Knowledge of data analysis for informed decision making
- Standard school calendar with additional hours for rehearsals, concerts, and performances
- May include evening/weekend performances and community events

- Ability to stand for extended periods during rehearsals
- Ability to lift and carry instruments and equipment (up to 50 lbs.)
