The Materials Management Manager administers all activities and directs the staff of the supply chain department. This position oversees operations of purchasing, inventory control, new product development, shipping, receiving, linen and copy center with the expectation to reduce costs and improve outcomes for the organization.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Effectively controls and manages the procurement and distribution of supplies, equipment and materials in order to maintain optimum inventory levels consistent with usage.
- Pursue initiatives to standardize and consolidate supplies and manufacturers to maximize value, quality and cost savings.
- Determination if GPO or self-contracting is most effective for organization.
- Provide in-sight to C-suite regarding potential risks for disruption and industry trends.
- Implementation, maintenance and education of ERP system to increase efficiencies in the supply chain.
- Uses data and KPI to reduce future costs, mitigate risks and drive efficiencies for the organization.
- Consults with department managers to determine the effectiveness of current products and provides information regarding new products using electronic forms.
- Select, hire, train, and evaluates employees with the procedures and processes to effectively perform their duties.
- Leveraging data in order to make the best decisions to reduce costs and increase operational efficiencies.
- Attends and participates in all meetings for department managers and becomes involved, when possible, in hospital functions through committee participation.
- Develops departmental objectives that are aligned with the organizational strategies.
- Collaborates with suppliers and clinicians in the introductions and trialing of new or equivalent supplies or equipment.
- Attends appropriate number of meetings and inservices to keep up with industry trends.
- Develop an inventory strategy for pandemic situations.
Requirements of this position include:
- Bachelors degree required.
- 5 years of prior supply chain experience required.
- Ability to negotiate based on cost, quality and best outcomes for the organization using GPO or local contracts; ability to analyze situations and problems and reach decisive solutions; ability to provide leadership and cross departmental silos in order to institute a cost, quality and outcome culture; ability to interview and hire staff and instruct, train and develop employees; understand the impact of medical supplies and devices on patient outcome and reimbursements and introduce new products to clinicians based on effectiveness or clinical requirements.
