Job Overview
The Technician HVAC II will service and diagnose large tonnage centrifugal chillers, air cooled and water cooled screw, scroll and reciprocating chillers, packaged rooftop units, split condensing/AHU systems, boilers, pumps, cooling towers and other HVAC system components. This incumbent is also responsible for troubleshooting and repairing all HVAC equipment for the District's campuses and offices and while ensuring their safe and efficient operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Technical
- Service and change out motors, fans, exhausts and vent systems
- Diagnose problems and repair equipment valves, chillers, boilers, traps, exchanger, radiators, regulators, pumps and pipes
- Repair and calibrate variable frequency drives, connecting pipes, valves, dampers, actuators, air compressors and refrigeration dryers
- Use electronic diagnostic equipment and measuring instruments; troubleshoot, test, locate and diagnose problems and defects in equipment
- Replace defective components
- Inspect and check the operation of HVAC systems equipment on a regular basis
- Perform periodic preventative maintenance to keep the systems fully operational
- Ensure that all safety precautions, regulations and equipment are utilized properly, and that work complies with local building, mechanical, electrical and fire codes
- Keep records and prepare reports of work accomplished and cost of materials and labor
- Order parts, materials and supplies; maintain a parts inventory; recommend equipment purchases
- Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, specifications, and manufacturer’s manuals
- May supervisor the work of more than one employee

- High School diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Drivers License
- Valid State of Texas TDLR ACR Contractor "B" License with "C" Endorsement required or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire date
- EPA Universal Certification required or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire date
- Minimum of 3 years required or HVAC trade school
- Ability to respond to emergency calls relating to malfunctioning equipment
- Strong knowledge of Commercial HVAC equipment (maintenance and repairs)
- Ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve, and work independently
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate and follow directions clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Skilled in the use of general tools and testing equipment pertinent to the job

- Work requires sufficient strength, agility, dexterity, and hand-eye-foot coordination to perform all essential tasks, including operating and using all tools, equipment and vehicles; lifting and carrying objects up to 75 pounds; reaching in front of body and overhead while holding heavy objects, walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time; climbing and working from ladders, scaffolds, and lifts up to 40 feet high.
- Work is performed both inside and outside school district building and facilities, and often requires working unusual hours and may be designated for 24 hour on-call. Employee is exposed to a wide range of climatic conditions, dust, flammable or toxic chemicals, and loud noise. Employee is also exposed to potential electrical shock and other physical hazards when working on electronic components and systems, operating tools and equipment and working in high places or cramped spaces. Work requires vision necessary to determine color differences. Employee is required to wear and use safety clothing and equipment and to comply with safety policies and procedures. Must be able to handle stressful situations as necessary. Assignments are usually received orally or through written work orders. May be assigned to work an evening shift on a regular or rotating basis. Work is reviewed through completed work orders, personal inspection by a superior, or approval of an administrator at the work site, and through evaluation of results obtained.
