Job Overview

The District Lead Social Worker will assist the Coordinator of Mental Health and Social Work Services with all aspects of social work services, procedures, program development, and professional learning opportunities for the team. They will also play a vital role in promoting the well-being and academic success of students within the school community and FBISD campuses. This role will work collaboratively with educators, parents and other in district and community-based stakeholders to address the needs of district students and families.

Position Descriptionhe District Lead Social Worker will assist the Coordinator of Mental Health and SW Services with all aspects of Social Work services, procedures, program development, and professional learning opportunities for the team. They will also play a vital role in promoting the well-being and academic success of students within the school community and FBISD campuses. They will work collaboratively with educators, parents and other in district and community based members to address the needs of district students and families.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Direct Service

  • Perform casework services in a timely manner with individual students and/or their families at a campus and district level
  • Collaborate with campus staff and other school district personnel in determining and implementing strategies, both individual and small group, which promote student learning including drop-out prevention initiatives, truancy prevention supports behavior interventions, and other campus requested supports
  • Provide staff consultation on behavioral-emotional-environmental issues affecting student participation in the learning process
  • Make home visits upon request and/or as appropriate, based on collaboration with campus/district staff and in accordance with department guidelines
  • Intervene in problem situations to facilitate strategies to address discipline, attendance issues and resolutions to conflict in order to prevent escalation of negative behaviors and subsequent consequences
  • Provide crisis intervention services for assigned campuses and district-wide
  • Work closely with McKinney-Vento and PEP students on assigned campuses
  • Play a key role in overseeing various team committees

Indirect Service

  • Serve as a liaison between the social work team and the Coordinator of Mental Health and Social Work Services
  • Serve on campus, district and community committees including IEP, SST, and Attendance Committees to address educational issues, adjustment problems, safety issues, and program development for students
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator to plan and lead monthly team meetings
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of professional development and learning opportunities for the team
  • Oversee team documentation and reports on a monthly and annual basis
  • Assist in the hiring and placement of social workers
  • Train and mentor social workers
  • Work in collaboration with the Coordinator to develop, implement, and monitor district procedures
  • Serve as a liaison between the team and the district homeless liaison
  • Play a pivotal role in procuring, implementing and monitoring grant funds for the team
  • Serve as the main point person for team staffings
  • Be available for campus and district staffings as needed
  • Assist in leading and supporting the Social Work Internship Program
  • Attend district meetings as assigned

Reports

  • Maintain an accurate and detailed monthly calendar reflecting plans and activities and a monthly social work report of activities and contacts of the team; submit appropriate documents for statistical reports with adherence to program standards in school social work. Demonstrate strong familiarity with the team documentation system, SNAP.

Qualification Requirements

  • Master's degree in Social Work
  • LMSW under Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners required
  • LCSW under Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years experience working with school-age children and families
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures of social work services and awareness of ethical and professional responsibilities
  • Knowledge of social, psychological, and educational development of children
  • Ability to interface with community agencies
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with district staff and multiple campuses’ staff, students, and parents
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of cultural competence in working with diverse populations
  • Adept knowledge working with various Microsoft applications, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Bilingual preferred

The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.

Additional Information

  • This position requires travel to community agencies and homes throughout the District. Work is sometimes performed during home visits.
  • This position will require flex hours, including evenings and/or weekends to support district wide events.
