What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Services Advocacy Manager position at Forsyth County?
The purpose of this classification is to evaluate situations, conduct psychosocial and mental health assessments, and serve as a provider of resources, counseling, and advocacy to support safe and stable living for senior adults and their families. This role also involves leading a team to ensure effective service delivery, establishing and strengthening community partnerships to enhance resource coordination, and support the department’s strategic growth by identifying needs, addressing service gaps, and promoting community engagement.

Conducts assessments of situations as requested by individuals, families, staff or outside organizations and then develops a plan to find and secure resources as needed for each individual case to resolve the situation. Assists the elder with implementation of resources and provides on going follow up and support.
Oversees the departmental assessment process for entry into grant programs, including Congregate, Respite, and the homebound program; works closely with other assessment staff providing extended services to clients as needs arise.
Works closely with the Sheriff’s Office, Adult Protective Services, area agencies on aging, and local non-profit organizations to follow-up on cases and provide extended services.
Oversees the departmental home repair program.
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals; conducts interviews and makes hiring recommendations; coordinates training activities.
Coordinates daily work activities; organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; confers with assigned staff, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise.
Ensures staff complies with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
Maintains information regarding caseloads, program progress, and other data; prepares and submits operational and statistical reports pertaining to Senior Services programs, operations, and services; and submits reports to data collecting agencies.
Maintains licensure and/or certification required for performance of professional duties; maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field and applies pertinent new knowledge to the performance of other duties.
Receives general direction when performing the essential functions. Uses broad discretion and constant initiative to complete work assignments.
Interprets conflicting or incomplete data in the decision-making process regarding long-range goals, priorities, policy interpretation, project planning, and individual work priorities. Communicates such in person, through court testimony, written correspondence, or via telephone.
Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; utilizes word processing, database, spreadsheet, desktop publishing, e-mail, Internet, or other software programs.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Recommends and assists in implementing corrective actions related to problem areas in cases. May supervise and/or train subordinate personnel. Performs other related duties as required.

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a mental health-related field (e.g. counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, education, psychology), supplemented by one (1) years previous experience in case management and/or individual, group and family counseling. License as a Professional Counselor, Marriage & Family Therapist or Social Worker preferred.
