The purpose of this classification is to perform technical and administrative tasks to enforce County codes, ordinances and other laws involving delinquent tax payments.  Duties include providing information and assistance regarding delinquent tax issues, conducting investigations of delinquent tax situations, identifying delinquent tax violators, maintaining related records, and retrieving delinquent tax through all available methods.

The following duties are normal for this position.  The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.  Other duties may be required and assigned.


Interprets, explains, and enforces the provisions of County codes, ordinances and other applicable Federal, State, and local codes, laws, rules, regulations, specifications, standards, policies and procedures; researches code-related issues as needed; initiates actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.


Provides information and assistance concerning codes, ordinances, code interpretation, code compliance and related issues; discusses delinquent tax violations and problems with property owners, mortgage companies or other individuals; provides recommended actions concerning violations.  


Conducts investigations regarding delinquent tax situations; conducts site visits; collects information and gathers evidence; interviews witnesses, offenders and other individuals regarding delinquent taxes; makes photographic or video records.


Researches and determines ownership of delinquent properties and locates best contact information.


Issues intent to Fi.Fa. notices and subsequent issuance/recordation of tax liens; levies on bank accounts of individuals and business owing delinquent taxes upon having been contacted via three separate methods of communication without resolution, sends subsequent notices of levy via certified mail.


Records entries of satisfaction with the Clerk of Court for liens once paid.


Serves as a Deputy Ex-Officio Sheriff; appointed and sworn in by the Tax Commissioner.


Conducts tax sales as needed in absence of the Tax Commissioner or Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner. 


Works with County’s vendor for tax sales to assist in coordinating listings and provide needed information to vendor; prepares and maintains files for tax sale properties.  


Submits monthly and quarterly reports; performs related administrative tasks.


Operates a personal computer, and general office equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software.


Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines; reads professional literature; attends seminars, workshops, and training sessions as appropriate.


Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in business, accounting, finance or related field; supplemented by 2 years (2) years of experience in property taxes, bookkeeping, real estate, customer service; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.   Must possess and maintain a valid GA driver’s license.

Salary : $55,839 - $72,591
