Part-time Lower School Science/Innovation Teacher Job Description
Forsyth Country Day School is seeking a part-time Lower School Science and Innovation teacher (29 hours per week) to serve as both the Kindergarten science teacher and the K-4 Innovation teacher.
The Kindergarten science teacher teaches two science classes on even days and one science class on odd days within a Days 1-4 schedule. Innovation classes for students in K-4 are taught on a rotating quarterly schedule.
The Innovation teacher collaborates closely with the Lower School Librarian and Director of Innovation to implement curriculum aligned with innovation standards.
Candidates should have solid knowledge of craft and building tools, Google Workspace, 3D Design software such as TinkerCad, age-appropriate coding and robotics, and digital fabrication basics. Candidates should feel comfortable modeling curiosity, creativity, and iteration.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of science and innovation curriculum standards and the design thinking process.
- Utilizes a range of data sources to drive instruction, plans for support, and sets goals for students. This includes assessing and reporting on student learning, including formative and benchmark assessments, report cards, and parent conferences.
- Employs a variety of teaching methods and collaborates with colleagues to design interdisciplinary projects and activities.
- Builds strong partnerships with families and communicates regularly about student learning and classroom events, including conducting conferences.
- Identifies students’ needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping support students’ health, behavioral, and learning needs.
- Participates in all divisional, team, department, and faculty meetings.
- Maintains a positive attitude and conducts oneself professionally with respect to students, faculty, parents, and the community.
- Vigorously pursues knowledge of best teaching practices and of ages of students taught.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, elementary or early childhood education
- 3 or more years of classroom teaching experience, preferred
- Teaching license preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Regularly required to walk, including across uneven ground, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
- Must be able to sit and stand on the floor throughout the day, and bend, kneel, or squat to be at eye level with children.
- Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed
- Must be able to utilize oral and written communication skills effectively
