Tasks
Forever Families is seeking a compassionate and organized Adoption Specialist to support children in the Michigan child welfare system who are legally free for adoption. The Adoption Specialist manages a caseload of youth awaiting adoptive placement and works closely with prospective adoptive families, courts, and community partners to ensure timely permanency outcomes.
This position provides case management, family assessment, recruitment, and adoption support services in compliance with Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) policies and child welfare regulations. As needed, the Adoption Specialist may also support foster care cases for youth awaiting adoption.
Requirements
- achelor’s Degree required in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Education, or related field
- BSW or MSW preferred
- Experience working with children and families preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills
- Ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines
- Proficiency with computers and database documentation systemsAdditional Requirements
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass criminal background and Central Registry checks
- Willingness to attend Child Welfare Training Institute (CWTI) required training
- Flexibility to attend occasional evening community recruitment events
