What are the responsibilities and job description for the Forensic Case Manager position at FOREST WARREN HUMAN SERVICES?

Caseworker 1:

· A bachelor’s degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences: OR

· Two years’ experience as a Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college-level coursework which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences: OR

· Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.

Caseworker 2:

· Six months as a Caseworker 1; OR

· Successful completion of the social casework intern program; OR

· A bachelor’s degree with a social welfare or social work major; OR

· A bachelor’s degree which includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of professional social casework experience in a public or private social services agency: OR

· Any equivalent combination of experience and training, which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.

OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB:

To perform crisis and mental health assessments of inmates at time of booking or at any point which is necessary during their incarceration.

Responsibilities

  • · Complete inmate intake sessions in a timely manner so that appropriate referrals can be made regarding medication needs and other mental health needs both internally and externally.

· Documenting important information and data in a timely and professional manner.

· Collaborating with other community resources for the benefit of the inmate (i.e. housing, medication management, case management).

· Assist the provider in developing plans of treatment for inmates needing a higher level of mental health attention (i.e. depression, psychosis, trauma, anxiety disorders).

· Assist the provider in developing levels of suicide precautions based on initial intake status and specifics surrounding incarceration as well as updating these statuses as events occur during incarceration.

· Completing assessment and reassessments as needed such as trauma inventories, depression inventories and suicide rating scales.

· Participating in meetings that are instrumental for the well-being of the inmate.

· Ensuring that needed materials are available for therapy and training sessions (i.e. handouts, copies of workbooks, etc.).

  • Assist in coordinating training (i.e. anger management, coping skills, depression/anxiety/trauma/accountability/responsibility, getting ready to leave the jail)

· Coordinating with staff the appropriateness of certain inmates to attend group and individual counseling

· Communicating necessary information to other staff

· Being accessible, as necessary, for the day-to-day emotional needs of inmates to assist in decreasing acting out behaviors and addressing their concerns as they come up.

· Assist in coordinating required trainings for staff (i.e. trauma informed, suicide prevention)

· Subject to be called out nights, weekends, and holidays. Exposure to dangerous persons and must supervise jail inmates while performing assessments.

· Performs other job-related duties as required.

· Verify disability by acquiring necessary paperwork.

· Complete liability determination.

· Make appropriate referrals to providers.

· Participate in team meetings for the purpose of developing service plans to address the needs of the consumer.

· Maintain confidentiality in regard to consumer information and records in accordance with governing regulations and laws.

· Document case activity through case notes, records, case histories, correspondence, and reports applicable to policies and procedures.

· Work collaboratively with social service agencies, hospitals, courts, and other community resources.

· Act as an advocate when necessary.

· Demonstrate a sensitive awareness of cultural/ethnic diversity and age-related issues.

· Maintain a confidential and professional demeanor when dealing with social service agencies, community resources, families, and general public.

· Maintain an appropriate and professional appearance.

· Participate in staff meetings and ongoing supervision.

· Maintain confidentiality in regards to consumer information and records in accordance with governing reulations and laws..

· Perform other related work as required. Crosses program lines when the need arises

· Work toward a trauma informed, coordinated, and collaborative system of services and support driven by the inmate

· Opportunity to serve as a Mental Health Delegate, including participation in on-call rotations, with the potential to be drafted when coverage is needed.

Requirements

  • · Work is performed in accordance with established regulations, policies and procedures, but employee is expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment in achieving objectives.

· Knowledge of interviewing methods and techniques.

· Knowledge of community resources

· Knowledge of social, economic and health problems and corresponding resources.

· Knowledge of federal, state and county rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

· Knowledge of Agency practices and procedures.

· Knowledge of computer software, such as: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.

· Ability to evaluate and analyze information obtained through interviews and general observation, reports, records, and other sources and to provide information to inmate, families and social service and/or administrative staff.

· Ability to apply the knowledge gained during training to on-the-job situations.

· Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with inmate, families, agency staff and other community agencies.

· Ability to implement developed training programs.

· Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

· Ability to exchange information with others courteously, clearly and concisely; present thoughts logically and in a clear, concise and courteous manner.

· Ability to practice organizational and stress management skills.

· Must strive to be trauma aware—to understand the dynamics and impact of trauma on the lives of individuals, families, and communities. We strive to create a trauma-sensitive culture by demonstrating, through consumer empowerment, program design, training and case management, an understanding of the relationships among trauma, substance abuse, and mental illness.

Pay: $19.07 - $20.50 per hour
