Forest Lake Club is currently partnering with Beau Welling to develop a comprehensive golf master plan, positioning the course for an exciting future renovation.
Position SummaryThis is a unique opportunity to contribute to the continued evolution of a historic golf course while playing a key role in elevating daily course conditions. The Assistant will gain hands-on experience across multiple turfgrass varieties and work alongside a membership deeply invested in the quality and future of the course.

Course & Agronomic Profile- Putting Surfaces: Champion Ultradwarf Bermudagrass
- Collars: Celebration Hybrid Bermudagrass
- Fairways: Tifway 419 Hybrid Bermudagrass
- Teeing Grounds: Tifway 419, Celebration Hybrid Bermudagrass, and Diamond Zoysia
- Irrigation System: Two-wire Rain Bird system with man-made lake source
- Assist in leading, training, and developing maintenance staff
- Instruct team members on the proper use, care, and storage of equipment
- Support irrigation operations, including repairs, design, and installation
- Supervise and participate in chemical, fertilizer, and pesticide applications
- Contribute to the development and execution of agronomic programs and calendars
- Monitor daily course conditions, including turf quality, green speeds, bunker presentation, and moisture management
- Collaborate with Golf Operations on course conditions, maintenance schedules, and tournament preparation
- Lead by example through active, hands-on participation with the team
- Assist in planning and executing long-term agronomic strategies
- Manage inventory and procurement of supplies, including chemicals, sand, and materials
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Grounds
Direct oversight of Spray Technician, Irrigation Technician, and Maintenance Team (20–26 employees)

- 2- or 4-year degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management (preferred)
- South Carolina Pesticide License or the ability to obtain within 90 days
- Valid driver’s license
- Availability to work weekends and holidays as needed
Technical Knowledge:
- Golf course maintenance practices (greens, tees, fairways)
- Turfgrass establishment and care
- Fertilization, pest control, and soil management
- Irrigation systems, including pumps, wells, and automated controls
- Drainage systems and water management
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and turf management systems (e.g., Task Tracker, Playbooks)
- Ability to effectively schedule, supervise, and optimize team productivity
- Strong organizational and reporting skills
- Ability to build and maintain positive employee and member relationships
- Salary: $60,000–$67,000 (based on experience)
