What are the responsibilities and job description for the PE and Health Teacher position at Forest Hills Lutheran Christian School?
Forest Hills Lutheran Christian School is seeking a Christ-centered Physical Education and Health Teacher who is passionate about helping students grow in physical health, teamwork, character, and Christian faith. This teacher will provide engaging physical education instruction for Kindergarten through 8th grade and health instruction for students in grades 6–8.
A Forest Hills Lutheran Christian School teacher will be an active member of a Christian congregation, preferably a Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod congregation. The teacher will have demonstrated a commitment to Christ, children, and Christian education.
Accountability
The Physical Education and Health Teacher is accountable to the Principal and will collaborate with faculty and staff in carrying out the duties listed below. The Principal will evaluate teachers annually.
Specifically, the teacher will be required to fulfill the following duties:
1. Fostering Effective Relationships
The teacher will:
a) Value all students, respecting their God-given gifts and human dignity while encouraging participation, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
b) Build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues that reflect Christian love, respect, and encouragement.
c) Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, expectations, and activities.
d) Serve as a positive Christian role model, demonstrating integrity, compassion, and leadership both inside and outside the classroom.
2. Planning for Understanding and Success
The teacher will:
a) Plan and implement engaging physical education lessons for Kindergarten through 8th grade that promote physical fitness, coordination, teamwork, and lifelong healthy habits.
b) Plan and teach a weekly health class for students in grades 6–8 covering age-appropriate topics related to wellness, nutrition, personal responsibility, and healthy living.
c) Integrate Christian values such as respect, perseverance, teamwork, and stewardship of the body into instruction.
d) Organize lessons and activities that are developmentally appropriate and inclusive for students of all abilities.
3. Engaging Students through Effective Instruction
The teacher will:
a) Lead students in a variety of physical activities, including fitness, skill development, games, and cooperative activities.
b) Encourage positive sportsmanship, teamwork, and perseverance.
c) Foster a fun, active, and encouraging environment where students are motivated to participate and improve.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated commitment to the Christian faith and Christian education
- Active member of a Christian congregation (LCMS preferred)
- Experience working with children in educational, coaching, or youth settings preferred
- Ability to lead physical activities and manage groups of students effectively
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Work Hours, Benefits, Salary
This position is part-time, working approximately 22 hours per week.
Pay: $15,321.13 - $35,784.58 per year
