JOB TITLE: Director of Children’s Ministry
REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor, Staff-Parish Relations Committee
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Salaried (Exempt); Part-time
HOURS: Hours will vary from week to week. The Director of Children’s Ministry is expected to work an average of 10 hours per week, based on the needs of the church and the needs of the Senior Pastor.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Children’s Ministry will manage a comprehensive children’s program utilizing the gifts and talents within our congregation and community. Specifically, at FHUMC, these current duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Individually:
· Develop and implement programs and ministries for children from birth through 5th grade
· Organize, resource, and provide oversight to children’s Sunday School and Children’s Worship each week that challenge children to grow in faith
· Oversee the supervision of the Nursery including volunteers and paid staff
· Offer training and educational opportunities for volunteers
· Engage in open communication with parents and volunteers on a regular basis
· Organize and recruit/lead mission projects for children
· Coordinate curriculum for all children’s programs
· Submit budget requests and maintain line items in reference to Children’s Ministry areas
· Plan and implement special events and worship opportunities (Easter Egg Hunt, VBS, Back to School Bash, Christmas Program, etc.)
· Maintain a strong volunteer base for children’s ministry
· Abide by and uphold FHUMC Safe Sanctuaries Policy
· Submit background checks and retain proper documentation for volunteers working with children under the age of 18 years
· Collaborate with the Director of Preschool to invite and welcome Preschool families into FHUMC
Shared:
· Encourage children and families to participate in the larger congregation of FHUMC
· Spirit of respect and collaboration with the Clergy and staff of FHUMC
· Church Council Meeting
· Other church meetings as needed

QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated commitment to Christian discipleship. Understanding of the theological tradition of The United Methodist Church and a willingness to develop ministries that are consistent with the UMC. A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study is preferred, along with experience in the church setting. Ability to work with both clergy and laity to promote a comprehensive children’s ministry where people love God, grow in their faith, and serve others.
