Position Summary
Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Research Assistant/Lab Technician provides logistical support across various aspects of lab operations in addition to performing original scientific research.
Essential Functions
Performs routine lab maintenance tasks, including pouring LB agar plates, preparing buffers, autoclaving, and managing waste disposal.
Performs basic administrative tasks, including monitoring lab supplies, coordinating purchasing, and scheduling lab meetings.
Provides logistical support, training, and supervision for undergraduate researchers.
Conducts original scientific research on the molecular mechanisms of translesion polymerase activity in the bacterial species Bacillus subtilis.

Management Responsibilities Not responsible for supervision or oversight of others.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience
B.S./B.A. or higher degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related field.
Minimum 1 year of previous research experience in a chemistry or biology laboratory setting. Part-time research experience ( e.g. , as an undergraduate researcher) is acceptable if it represented a meaningful research experience with a significant time commitment.
Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills
Organized and detail-oriented.
Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage time efficiently, whether working independently or in a collaborative setting.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or microscopy is highly desirable.
Previous experience with programming (particularly in MATLAB ) and/or quantitative image analysis is highly desirable.
Minimum Starting Salary $48,000
