POSITION SUMMARY
Taking direction from the foreman or lead hand, this position is responsible for ensuring the safe operation of equipment and daily pre/post maintenance checks. The heavy equipment operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Safety Leadership & Compliance
- Ensuring safety and quality is at the forefront of every task
- Operate all heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner according to all relevant legislation, policies and procedures
- Perform daily pre/post safety and maintenance checks
- Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored
Equipment Operation to Include
- loaders
- dozers
- telehandler
- graders
- excavators
- Lodril
- Vibro-Hammer
- And other pieces of equipment.
Daily Responsibilities
- Able to follow site plans
- Work closely with construction team to understand tasks and provide feedback
- Understand and have knowledge with equipment operating manuals
- Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required
- Advise the fleet Foreman of any requirements for maintenance or repairs
- Participate in routine maintenance, cleaning, greasing etc.
- Ensuring documentation for equipment is up to date as per daily check
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience
- Operators certificate from a licensed service provider
- 3 to 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment, including excavators, loaders, and skid steers, as well as crawler tractors.
- Experience working on powerline, utility, transmission, or related infrastructure projects is considered a strong asset.
- Class 1 / CDL license with air brake endorsement is considered an asset.
- Crane operator certifications or related lifting equipment tickets are considered an asset.
- Class 5 license, class 1 license with air brakes considered asset
Skills & Abilities
- Proven experience operating loaders, excavators, and skid steers.
- Experience operating telehandlers, graders, dozers, Lodrils, Vibro-Hammers, and other heavy equipment is considered an asset.
- Ability to read and follow site plans and work safely in active construction environments.
- Strong understanding of equipment operating manuals, inspections, and preventative maintenance requirements.
- Experience supporting powerline, transmission, utility, or civil construction projects is considered an asset.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a construction crew while maintaining a strong safety focus.
Pay: $28.00 - $43.00 per hour
