Civil Structural Engineer – Nuclear Plant Modifications and Upgrades
We are seeking an experienced Civil Structural Engineer to support design and analysis efforts for commercial nuclear power plant modifications, upgrades, and new build related projects. This role involves working under the guidance of senior engineering staff while contributing to complex engineering solutions in a highly regulated environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform civil and structural engineering design and analysis in support of plant modifications, upgrades, and capital projects
- Develop and review engineering calculations, evaluations, and technical documentation
- Prepare design deliverables including specifications, drawings, and modification packages
- Evaluate existing plant structures and systems to support upgrades that improve safety, reliability, and performance
- Apply engineering principles related to structural steel, reinforced concrete, and piping support structures
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop and implement design solutions
- Support engineering change processes and ensure design outputs meet project and regulatory requirements
- Assist with project planning activities including scope development and schedule support
- Participate in technical reviews, design verification, and quality assurance processes
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Structural Engineering from an accredited program
- Minimum 10 years of engineering experience, including at least 4 years within a commercial nuclear power environment
- Experience supporting structural design and analysis for plant modifications, upgrades, or new build projects
- Working knowledge of nuclear plant systems and structures within a regulated environment
- Experience developing engineering calculations, feasibility studies, and technical evaluations
- Proficiency in structural analysis for steel and reinforced concrete systems
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards applicable to structural design and construction
- Experience working within formal design control processes, configuration management, and quality programs
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting both operating plant modifications and new nuclear development projects
- Familiarity with structural support design for equipment, piping, or safety related systems
- Exposure to project scheduling concepts and coordination with project controls teams
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain
