Overview
The Director of Commercial Marketing leads the strategy and execution of customer-facing marketing programs that directly drive revenue growth across key channels. Depending on the selected candidate’s experience, this position may be filled at the Senior Manager level.
Sitting at the intersection of Sales and Marketing, this role owns the development and execution of sell-in and sell-through programs, translating brand strategy into commercially effective initiatives that increase distribution, accelerate velocity, and strengthen channel partnerships.
This leader serves as the primary marketing partner to Sales, ensuring alignment between commercial priorities and marketing execution, and delivering programs that produce measurable business impact.
Core Responsibilities
1. Sales Enablement & Commercialization
- Own the end-to-end development of sell-in and sell-through programs for new and existing products, from launch through sustained growth
- Design and implement scalable sales enablement systems, including:
- Sell sheets, order guides, presentations, and toolkits
- Training programs and educational materials
- Launch communications and commercialization plans
- Partner closely with Sales leadership to align on priorities, account strategies, and execution plans
- Ensure all programs are commercially grounded and drive measurable revenue outcomes, not just materials creation
2. Channel & Trade Marketing Strategy
- Translate brand strategy into channel-specific marketing programs across:
- Retail (grocery, deli/perimeter)
- Foodservice
- Lead account-based marketing initiatives targeting distributors, retailers, and operators
- Develop and manage promotional calendars in partnership with Sales and Brand
- Oversee all trade and shopper marketing initiatives, including merchandising, POS, displays, and in-market activations
- Partner with Insights to leverage data and performance reporting to guide:
- Assortment strategy
- Product focus and prioritization
- Expansion and rationalization decisions
3. Engagement Marketing & Events (Revenue-Driven)
- Define and lead the engagement marketing strategy, including trade shows, demos, sponsorships, and events
- Ensure all engagement efforts are tied to clear commercial objectives (pipeline, account growth, revenue impact)
- Evaluate and optimize ROI of events and activations, prioritizing high-impact opportunities
4. Cross-Functional Leadership
- Translate Sales needs into marketing programs, and marketing strategy into sales-ready execution
- Deep collaboration with Director of Digital & Growth Marketing to align business strategy with any/all digital activations and campaigns
- Management of our retail insights team; ensure all sales presentations and new business opportunities are set up for success, aligning corporate/sales/brand strategy with insights that win deals.
- Build and develop a high-performing team providing mentorship, coaching, and clear direction
Success Metrics
- Revenue growth across key channels and accounts
- Sell-in success and velocity of new and/or focus products
- Adoption and effectiveness of sales enablement tools
- ROI of trade, promotional, and engagement programs
- Distribution gains and account expansion
- Strength of alignment and partnership with Sales
Experience & Qualifications
- 8–12 years of experience in CPG/food marketing, with strong exposure to retail and foodservice channels
- Proven success in trade marketing, channel marketing, or revenue/commercial marketing roles
- Experience working closely with Sales teams in sell-in environments (distributors, brokers, retailers, operators)
- Strong business acumen with the ability to connect strategy to execution and results
- Experience owning or significantly influencing go-to-market and commercialization strategy
- Data fluency and ability to translate insights into actionable programs (in partnership with Insights teams)
- Strong leadership and people management experience (mentorship, coaching, team development)
- Highly collaborative, with the ability to influence across functions and levels

Salary : $150,000 - $190,000
