Job Title: Compensation Analyst

Position Summary: The Compensation Analyst supports the design, analysis, and administration of compensation programs for a diverse workforce of approximately 5,000 employees of the company and affiliated entities supported by the company. This role provides support to ensure competitive, equitable, and legally compliant pay practices for both union and nonunion workforces. The analyst partners closely with Human Resources, Operations, Labor Relations, and Finance teams to conduct market analysis, support negotiations, provide labor budget forecasting information, and maintain compensation structures that attract and retain talent while supporting organizational goals and company culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Compensation Analysis & Administration
- Conduct market pricing, job evaluations, and internal equity analyses.
- Maintain and update job families, salary structures, pay grades, job descriptions, job codes, and job classification systems for union and non-union positions.
- Support development and implementation of annual merit, incentive, and wage increase programs.
- Ensure compensation programs align with applicable federal, state and local regulations, including federal and Hawaii labor laws, wage requirements, and pay transparency obligations.
- Union Compensation & Labor Support
- Interpret and apply compensation-related provisions within multiple CBAs across the company and affiliated entities supported by the company.
- Partner with Labor Relations team to prepare compensation models, costing scenarios, and pay analyses for collective bargaining negotiations.
- Ensure compensation systems reflect current contract terms, wage increases, seniority rules, premiums, and differentials.
- Support step progression pay-out process.
- Support grievance resolution and arbitration processes related to pay, classification, or step progression.
- Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compensation practices comply with federal, state, and local pay regulations, including FLSA and Hawaii wage laws.
- Prepare compensation reports, dashboards, and analytics for leadership.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure accuracy of job codes, wage rates, and pay changes.
- Prepare and complete Bureau and Labor Statistics (BLS) reports and annual Equal
- Employment Opportunity (EEO) reporting.
- Analytics, Reporting & Market Research
- Conduct market benchmarking, salary surveys, and competitive pay analyses specific to Hawaii’s unique labor markets.
- Analyze internal pay trends, turnover data, and compensation impacts to support talent and financial planning.
- Produce dashboards and ad hoc reporting for leadership, executives, and labor negotiations
- Project & Program Support
- Contribute to enterprise compensation initiatives such as market studies, job architecture redesign, pay equity reviews, and system enhancements.
- Assist with implementation and maintenance of compensation modules in HRIS systems.
- Support organizational change efforts, including reorganizations, and acquisition integrations.
- Serve as back-up for HRIS
Qualifications
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field required.
- 2–5 years of experience in compensation analysis or HR analytics; experience with collective bargaining/represented workforce strongly preferred.
- Experience in retail, grocery, or multi-site operations is a plus.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of job evaluation methods, market pricing, wage administration, and compensation theory.
- Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and union pay structures.
- Advanced Excel skills: experience with HRIS and compensation tools (e.g., Workday, UKG, SuccessFactors) preferred.
- Ability to manage sensitive data with confidentiality and accuracy.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple locations and departments.
- Working Conditions
- Hybrid work may be available depending on location and department needs.
- Primarily based at main office in Honolulu, Hawaii; however, occasional travel to stores and facilities across the state of Hawaii may be required.
- Fast-paced environment requiring strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
