What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Assistant 2 position at Food Safety Net Services?
JOB FUNCTION:
Reporting to the Department/Section Supervisor or Laboratory Manager, Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for the following:
- Receiving samples into LIMS & splitting samples between departments.
- Preform basic equipment maintenance and cleaning.
- Support chemists in their day-to-day tasks by assisting with sample retain, inventory, purchasing, and record keeping
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Logging of customer samples into the LIMS system with accuracy. Uses products as needed.
- Split samples between departments
- Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and reliability work.
- Ensure adherence to the daily work schedule.
- Make suggestions and recommendations regarding product/specs. that would aid in logging, including communication with customers.
- Perform clerical review to ensure accuracy.
- Ensure all samples are labeled correctly and stored at the appropriate temperatures until testing can occur.
- Ensure the sample receiving/splitting room is cleaned and maintained.
- Participate in special projects as assigned by the Manager/Supervisor.
- Keep the Manager/Supervisor informed of issues or problems within the department.
- Interact with clients, suppliers and vendors as required.
- Learn new techniques and technologies and trains others as appropriate.
- Work effectively with other departments.
- Responsible for the execution of all ISO and QC requirements.
- Stock/order supplies as needed (labels, boxes etc.)
- Assist with sample retain and retrieval
- Assists with purchasing and inventory
- Assist in media prep
- Assist in cleaning of laboratory glassware
- Assist in general laboratory housekeeping tasks
- Other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma
- Knowledge of good aseptic technique and behaviors that can reduce cross contamination.
- Good conceptual basis in laboratory setting with proven ability to perform basic lab techniques.
- Critical thinking - using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Excellent organizational skills - ability to use your time, energy, resources, etc. in an effective manner.
- Time management - one's own time and the time of others.
- Training - teaching and guiding others how to complete a process from beginning to end.
- Strong relevant qualitative and quantitative skills.
- Excellent arithmetic skills - using mathematics to solve problems.
- Good communication skills - speaking, reading, writing and listening.
- Manual dexterity.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods and lift up to 40 lbs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and to handle other communications/computer components
- Potential exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and microbiological pathogens
- Noise level varies from quiet to loud
- Temperature varies from hot to cold
- Interactive and fast-paced team-oriented tasks
- Overnight Travel is required at the discretion of management
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Color vision and depth perception
