What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ojibwe Language Nest Facilitator, OOG position at Fond du Lac Reservation?
- Responsibilities: Create and implement daily programming/scheduling
- Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.
Facilitate children’s nest programming outdoors in all weather conditions and during weekend and summer camps.
Work independently with elders and nest staff to create curriculum for nest programming and grant projects
Prepare and maintain developmentally appropriate spaces for children that align with the philosophies of the nest.
Maintain day to day operations of classroom and child programming
Assist Cultural Specialist in planning, preparing and serving traditional foods when appropriate for programming
Create supply list and program schedule well in advance for staff to purchase supplies
Meet with parents regularly to discuss programming with their children and address any concerns that arise.
Work with nest staff to develop and implement at home nest structure and pre- and post-partum nest programming
Prepare all language resources needed for adults in programming to be able to complete all nest activities in the language
Assist in documenting and implementing grant activities where appropriate
Work collaboratively with nest team to facilitate programming for the Gookonaanig Endaawaad (Grandma’s House) language nest program.
Assist with set-up and cleanup of the nest program.
Follow all OOG curriculum development, recording and archiving protocols.
Transports OOG participants to program activities.
Attends annual language assessment session.
Appropriate work attire is required.
Must attend all mandatory department trainings.
Ensures confidentiality of all financial records and all records for employees and/or clients.
Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Qualifications: Valid US Class D Driver’s License is required.
- Walking, bending stopping, and sitting on the floor with children are required.
Knowledge about Native language preservation and revitalization is preferred is required.
One year immersion environment required.
Bachelor of Arts Degree with a minor in American Indian Studies or Ojibwe language is preferred.
Coursework in child development and early childhood is required; if coursework is not obtained at the time of hire, courses will be provided and must be taken during employment.
Advanced knowledge of hearing, speaking, reading and writing Ojibwe double vowel system is required.
CPR and First Aide certification is required; if not certified at the time of hire, employee must become certified within 3 months of hire. Employment is contingent upon this requirement and must be kept current for the duration of employment. Training will be provided.
Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, data entry and or data bases. spreadsheets and Microsoft Outlook is required.
Knowledge of Native American communities, culture, customs, and beliefs is required.
Demonstrated experience working with Native American clients, communities and is able to demonstrate cultural sensitivity is required.
Two years’ experience teaching the Ojibwe Language in-person and/or online is preferred.
Knowledge about Native language preservation and revitalization is required.
May be requested to work extended hours to include weekends.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.
Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.
Travel is required.
