What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavioral Health Specialist position at Focused Living, Inc.?
Focused Living Inc. is looking for experienced individuals to join our team in the role of a Behavioral Health Specialist. This role will help us provide compassionate and effective support to the individuals we serve when they are experiencing emotional, behavioral, or mental health crises. The primary role of this position will be to respond to service sites to help program staff de-escalate situations, promote safety, and provide physical redirections if needed.
The Behavioral Health Specialist will be apart of our Behavior Response Team and will be an integral part of proving quality services and supports to the individuals we serve.
Focused Living Inc. takes an out of the box approach to providing services to individuals who have unique challenges. We believe in being “different” and will stand by our promise to serve all individuals no matter what mental health, behavioral health, or unique challenge they have. We currently operate 8 homes in the Little Falls area, each of our programs serve one individual with a staffing ratio of 2:1, 3:1, or 4:1.
The Perfect Candidate:
The perfect candidate for this position is somebody that is comfortable and confident in their ability to de-escalate situations, support our program staff, and provide physical redirections to those we serve as a last resort. Below is an outline of the job responsibilities
· Respond promptly to crisis situations involving individuals with emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges.
· Utilize de-escalation techniques to defuse tense situations and prevent escalation.
· Ability to stay calm in high stress situations and direct team members.
· Work with Program Supervisors and other Supervisory staff to assess each situation to find patterns.
· Provide input on how to better support those we serve through active behavior programming and positive supports.
· Complete required 245D reporting and documentation in the required timeframe.
· Flexibility in scheduling, include schedule changes and work locations.
Qualifications:
· 3 years of experience working with individuals who have high behavioral health needs in a residential setting.
· Be 21 years of age or older.
· High school diploma required, 2 year degree related to Human Services preferred.
· Be able to complete Manual Restraints as a last resort to maintain safety for staff and individuals served.
· Valid driver’s license.
· Ability to pass a criminal background study for adult and child foster care.
