Position Summary

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will evaluate, diagnose, and treat residents with speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders. This role includes developing individualized treatment plans, educating families and staff, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to support optimal resident outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate residents for speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing impairments
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on resident needs
  • Provide skilled therapy services aligned with medically necessary goals
  • Implement augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies when appropriate
  • Educate residents, caregivers, and staff on treatment techniques and progress
  • Collaborate with physicians and care teams to coordinate instrumental swallow studies (e.g., MBSS, FEES)
  • Document services accurately and in a timely manner per regulatory and facility requirements
  • Respond to family inquiries and provide ongoing communication regarding care
  • Support and train restorative nursing staff as needed
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and professional standards
  • Maintain resident dignity, confidentiality, and quality of care at all times

Qualifications

  • Active Texas Speech-Language Pathologist license
  • ASHA Certification (CCC-SLP)
  • In good standing with all licensing boards and regulatory agencies
  • Experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or geriatric rehabilitation preferred
  • Familiarity with Net Health documentation system a plus
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and clinical skills
