Summary
The Peer Recovery Specialist reflects a collaborative and strengths-based approach, with the primary goal being to assist individuals in achieving sustained recovery from addiction and/or mental health issues. The PRSS serves in a supportive role within a treatment setting to enhance the services. The PRSS is trained and certified in the domains of Advocacy, Mentoring/Education, Recovery/Wellness Support, and Ethical Responsibilities to better support clients in achieving recovery and resiliency. The services provided become a permanent critical component of the continuum of care services that substantially improve the client's ability to sustain recovery/wellness. The position provides PRSS services for participants in a local emergency department. The shift is currently scheduled Tuesday through Saturday 3:30pm to Midnight. Must be available during the days for training and meetings periodically.
Responsibilities
- Provide crisis intervention and support to individuals experiencing emotional or behavioral challenges.
- Conduct motivational interviewing to facilitate client engagement and goal setting.
- Develop individualized recovery plans in collaboration with clients and their families.
- Utilize crisis management techniques to ensure the safety and well-being of clients.
- Mentor clients through their recovery journey, offering guidance and encouragement.
- Document client progress and maintain accurate records in compliance with agency policies.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and resources for clients.

Requirements
1. Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Current certification as a Peer Recovery Coach in the State of West Virginia by the Certification Board for Addiction and Prevention Professionals or ability to become certified within one (1) year from the date of hire.
3. Minimum two (2) years demonstrated personal recovery experience.
4. Preferred experience with substance use disorders, homelessness, mental illness, and domestic violence.
5. Valid Driver’s License in good standing.
6. Must be able to pass all required background checks.
7. Knowledge of community resources.
8. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
9. Understanding of relapse prevention, mental health first aid, trauma informed care, and harm reduction techniques.
10. Strong skills in motivational interviewing and addiction counseling techniques.
11. Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with clients and team members.
12. Experience in crisis intervention and behavioral health settings is highly desirable.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent communications, verbal and written.
- Frequent standing and or sitting.
- Visually, or other otherwise be able to identify, observe and assess clients.

Pay: $14.53 - $15.49 per hour
