What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Operator position at FMI?
The Utility and Production Operator essential functions include:
- The ability to work as a member of a team, have attention to detail, and work promptly and safely, while maintaining accuracy and quality.
- Operates various pieces of equipment. Has knowledge of and ability to react to operating and maintenance problems on all equipment that the individual has been trained to operate.
- Has knowledge of the inspection process, customer requirements, measuring tools, and overall familiarity with the department operations and maintenance practices.
- Obtain thorough knowledge to produce a quality product consistently, and the ability to control those parameters in a timely fashion. Also requires basic computer and customer requirements.
- Follow all safety rules to avoid workplace accidents.
- Must work accurately to avoid a loss of production, serious damage to machines, and reduced quality of product.
- Works as a member of a team, operating equipment to produce quality product.
- Cross-train at different workstations
- Must be able to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends & holidays, if necessary
Education:
- High school diploma or GED.
Experience:
- One (1) year of manufacturing experience.(preferred)

Work Environment:
- Job function is performed in/out a plant setting requiring standard safety precautions.
- There is exposure to operating machinery and a manufacturing environment.
- Activities will involve working near moving machinery, heavy equipment, noise, hazardous materials, various gases, and high locations in a congested area.
- This position may require performing tasks on computers.
- There will be periods of walking, standing, pulling, pushing and lifting.
- The employee frequently is required to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and climb or balance.
- The employee is occasionally required to reach with arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear.
