Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Import/Export Specialist to lead our international trade and domestic shipping operations. The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in global trade regulations and domestic freight coordination, thriving in the energetic pace of a manufacturing environment. By collaborating cross-functionally with procurement, engineering, and compliance, you will ensure seamless movement of materials and finished goods while maintaining strict regulatory adherence and on-time delivery.

Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage day-to-day import and export transactions in compliance with U.S. and international regulations (ITAR, EAR, U.S. Customs, etc.).
  • Oversee all domestic shipments, including coordination with carriers, freight forwarders, and internal teams.
  • Prepare and review shipping documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, bills of lading, and export declarations. 
  • Classify products using HTS codes, ECCNs, and country-of-origin determinations. 
  • Coordinate with customs brokers and freight forwarders to ensure compliance and resolve shipment issues.
  • Support internal teams with trade compliance guidance and shipping requirements.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and ensure internal processes remain compliant.
  • Maintain accurate records for audits, internal reviews, and government compliance.
  • Support internal and external audits, corrective actions, and compliance investigations.
  • Assist with licensing, exemptions, and government filings as required.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and streamline domestic and international shipping processes.


SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS

  • 3 years of experience in import/export, logistics, or global trade compliance.
  • Strong working knowledge of ITAR, EAR, U.S. Customs regulations, and Incoterms.
  • Experience managing both domestic and international shipments.
  • Experience in defense, aerospace, or regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and carrier coordination.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (INFOR is a plus) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Must be able to speak/read/write English.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) or working toward certification (a plus). 
  • Experience with government contracting and FAR/DFARS requirements.
  • Experience optimizing shipping and compliance workflows for high-mix, low-volume manufacturing operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Office-based role with after-hours support as needed.
  • Ability to lift and move material up to 40 pounds.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The expected salary range for this position is $80,000- $100,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Flyer Defense also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, company paid holidays and paid time off.
