The Fluvanna County Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office is seeking a full-time Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue II to perform responsible clerical, technical, and customer service work in support of real estate, personal property, business personal property, and related tax functions.

This position is responsible for preparing and maintaining tax records, assisting with taxpayer information and applications, maintaining and updating tax-related databases, and supporting the general operations of the Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office. The position requires strong attention to detail, sound customer service skills, and the ability to work accurately with financial, property, and taxpayer information.

This position offers the opportunity to serve the public directly while supporting an office responsible for important local government revenue and assessment functions.


What You’ll Do - Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain real estate and personal property tax records.
  • Assist with the management and maintenance of personal property databases, including tax relief coding and DMV Book updates.
  • Maintain records related to public service utility assets and coordinate with the State Corporation Commission as needed.
  • Assist with supplemental payments, abatements, database updates, and related tax record corrections.
  • Interpret, apply, and assist with compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, laws, and office procedures.
  • Assist citizens in person, by telephone, and through other forms of communication with questions, applications, database inquiries, and issue resolution.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain detailed records, reports, files, and related documentation.
  • Provide courteous, accurate, and professional customer service to citizens, County staff, and other agencies.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of laws, policies, and procedures associated with property ownership and taxation.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain detailed financial records, reports, and documentation.
  • Ability to interpret and apply applicable codes, ordinances, laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to enter, review, update, and maintain database information accurately.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate clearly with the public.
  • Ability to research information, identify discrepancies, and assist with resolving taxpayer or record-related concerns.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling taxpayer and financial information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, County officials, outside agencies, and the general public.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with accuracy and professionalism.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school graduation, supplemented by coursework in business, accounting, taxation, or a related field.
  • One year of experience in data management.
  • Two years of customer service experience in an office environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field of study.
  • Certified Master Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue designation.
  • Prior experience in a Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office, Treasurer’s Office, local government office, financial office, or similar public-facing administrative environment.

  • Notary Public.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
  • Work requires fingering, grasping, repetitive motions, vocal communication, hearing, and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
  • Work is generally performed in an office environment with regular public contact.

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, within the approved pay range.
