Position OverviewThe Press Brake and Laser Operator is responsible for efficiently setting up and operating press brakes and laser cutting equipment to form sheet metal parts according to production requirements. Key duties include interpreting production orders and technical drawings, safely loading materials, selecting appropriate programs and tooling, performing test cuts, and monitoring cutting and bending operations for quality. The operator manages part identification and workflow, conducts inspections using precision instruments, and continuously adjusts machine settings to ensure accuracy and consistency. Additional responsibilities involve following safety protocols, performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting equipment issues, and collaborating with team members to optimize production processes.
Key Responsibilities- Set up and operate press brakes, including loading and unloading materials.
- Interpret production orders, drawings, and cut lists to determine material type, thickness, and required programs.
- Load sheet metal safely using suitable lifting devices or manual handling techniques.
- Select and load the correct cutting programs, nests, and parameters based on material specifications.
- Perform test cuts and adjust feed rates, power levels, and focus settings to ensure optimal cut quality.
- Monitor cutting operations to ensure accuracy, speed, and part quality throughout the production run.
- Manage part removal, sorting, and identification to maintain continuous workflow and prevent mix-ups.
- Select, install, and adjust appropriate tooling for each job.
- Program brake controls as needed or adjust pre-programmed parameters to achieve the desired bends and angles.
- Conduct first-part inspections and in-process quality checks using precision measuring instruments such as calipers and angle protractors.
- Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain consistent and accurate bending.
- Follow all safety regulations and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Perform routine maintenance on the press brake and tooling.
- Troubleshoot machine issues and promptly report malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Collaborate with other team members to optimize production processes.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Carry out other related duties as assigned.
- Experience with CNC press brakes and/or CAD/CAM interfaces.
- Ability to perform basic math and geometry calculations.
- Sheet metal fabrication training, trade school, or relevant certification (such as FMA PSMO).
- Previous experience working in a lean or just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing environment.
- Ability to remain focused at the machine for the entire duration of the shift.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, up to 50 lbs.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures.

Pay Range
The salary range for this position (in local currency) is 51,300.00 - 85,700.00
