What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data Center Operations, Network Technician Lead position at Fluidstack?
About Fluidstack
We exist to make humanity more free. For most of human history, you farmed or you starved. Technology gave people more time for the things they wanted to do, instead of things they had to do. Powerful AI will be the biggest lever for human choice we've ever built - but only if models are aligned with what humanity actually wants. There are groups building AI who don't share these goals. Whoever deploys frontier compute infrastructure fastest will decide whether AI expands human freedom or shrinks it.
We're singularly focused on delivering 10 to 100s of GWs of compute faster than anyone else, rethinking every layer of the stack. We acquire power, design and build data centers, and operate them - with teams spanning hardware and software. Speed and scale are our key differentiators. Come be a part of building civilization-scale infrastructure for AI.
We hire people who care deeply about this problem space. If that is you, please apply!
About The Role
We are seeking a Data Center Operations Technician to serve as the on-site specialist for network and structured cabling issues across our AI datacenter infrastructure. You will be the Tier 3 escalation point for network and ICT-related incidents, responsible for troubleshooting physical layer faults, validating repairs, and ensuring rapid resolution of issues that impact customer workloads.
This role sits within the Data Center Operations organization and is assigned to a specific site. You will work closely as an escalation path for Tier 1 and 2 technicians as well as closely with Network Operations, and cross-functional teams to maintain the reliability and performance of high-density AI Infrastructure. When issues exceed on-site scope, you will escalate with clear documentation to Network Operations for deeper investigation.
The ideal candidate bridges two worlds: a strong foundation in structured cabling and fiber infrastructure, combined with enough network fundamentals to interpret device-level diagnostics and validate that physical repairs restore connectivity. You are comfortable being the sole network/ICT escalation resource on-site and take ownership of issues through resolution.
Responsibilities
We are committed to pay equity and transparency.
Fluidstack is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability and protected veterans’ status, or any other characteristic protected by law. Responsibilities
- Serve as the Tier 2 escalation point for network and cable plant incidents reported by customers or detected through monitoring
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve physical layer issues including fiber faults, transceiver failures, patch panel problems, and cable plant defects. Lead your local team beyond troubleshooting maturing to process and metrics operations as we build automated diagnostics and repair.
- Perform fiber inspection, cleaning, testing, and light-level validation to identify and remediate connectivity issues
- Participate in the testing and deployment of automated diagnostic and repair tools, serving as a liaison to Network Operations, NRE, and Network Automation teams. Lead onsite pilots, provide constructive feedback, monitor and enforce adoption of tooling systems.
- Execute structured cabling repairs including re-patching failed runs and coordinating with Infrastructure Deployment for complex remediation
- Run post-repair validation tools to confirm device connectivity, LLDP neighbor relationships, and acceptable optical power levels
- Interpret basic network diagnostics — including light levels, interface status, and neighbor discovery — to validate that physical repairs have restored expected connectivity
- Document incidents thoroughly and escalate to Network Operations with clear problem statements when issues require logical-layer or deeper investigation
- Maintain awareness of site topology and cable plant documentation to accelerate fault isolation
- Collaborate with other Tier 2 teams in other regions, developing best practices
- Build and manage dashboards and views in ticketing systems, providing insights and guidance on workload.
- Collaborate with Tier 1 technicians and provide guidance on network/ICT triage to reduce unnecessary escalations
- 3 years of hands-on experience in datacenter environments with a focus on structured cabling, fiber infrastructure, or network hardware support
- Proficiency with fiber troubleshooting tools: Visual Fault Locators (VFL), optical power meters, light sources, and fiber inspection scopes
- Understanding of fiber types (single-mode, multi-mode), connector standards, and acceptable light-level thresholds for datacenter optics
- Familiarity with structured cabling standards and best practices for fault identification and remediation
- Ability to interpret basic network interface diagnostics — including link status, optical power readings, and LLDP/neighbor information — without requiring deep protocol-level troubleshooting
- Strong documentation and communication skills; able to write clear escalation summaries for remote engineering teams
- Willingness to relocate to an assigned datacenter site
- Experience with OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) for fiber fault localization
- BICSI Installer 1 or Installer 2 certification
- CCNA or equivalent foundational network certification
- Experience supporting high-density compute environments (GPU clusters, HPC, AI/ML infrastructure)
- Familiarity with DCIM platforms and cable plant documentation systems
- Prior experience in a tiered support model with clear escalation workflows
- Exposure to high-speed optics (100G, 400G, 800G) and associated transceiver technologies
- Experience with SQL and JQL building dashboards for operations management and visibility.
- Experience with Arista, Juniper, Sonic, Cisco CLI and operating systems
- Competitive total compensation package (salary equity).
- Retirement or pension plan, in line with local norms.
- Health, dental, and vision insurance.
- Generous PTO policy, in line with local norms.
We are committed to pay equity and transparency.
