About the Role
We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support mission critical construction projects in the Chicago area. This role focuses on highly technical facilities such as data centers and other critical infrastructure where precision, coordination, and reliability are essential. The APM will work closely with Project Managers and field teams to help deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Position Summary
The Assistant Project Manager will support project execution from preconstruction through closeout, assisting with documentation, coordination, scheduling, and communication. This position is ideal for a motivated construction professional looking to build a long-term career in mission critical construction with exposure to complex systems, strict sequencing, and high-performance project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Support mission critical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout
- Assist with review and coordination of drawings, specifications, submittals, and RFIs
- Maintain and update project documentation, logs, and meeting minutes
- Assist with schedule updates, look-ahead planning, and milestone tracking
- Support change order preparation and cost tracking
- Coordinate with trade partners, consultants, and internal team members
- Assist with procurement and tracking of long-lead materials and equipment
- Monitor compliance with safety, quality, and project standards
- Help identify and escalate schedule, cost, or constructability issues to the Project Manager
- Support project closeout activities including punchlists, turnover, and documentation
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred
- 2 years of construction experience, ideally on mission critical, data center, or technically complex projects
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Detail-oriented with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
- Familiarity with construction management software and scheduling tools
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced, highly technical construction environment
