Head Coach - Men's and Women's Water Ski

The Head Coach plans, directs, and administers the operations of the College’s Men’s and Women’s Water Ski team including but not limited to, recruiting, scouting, academic support, fundraising, and compliance with national governing body. The Head Coach is also responsible for the oversight and upkeep on the Water Ski Boathouse, Boat, and required equipment and supplies to participate in water ski.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Coaches ski team throughout the academic year.
• Monitors academic progress for all water skiers throughout the year and holds regular meetings with individual skiers to discuss academic and athletic progress.
• Manages the water ski program budget including working with Financial Aid on scholarship packages.
• Plans and implements pre-season and in-season conditioning programs for skiers.
• Recruits new team members nationwide and internationally throughout the year.
• Fosters communication and strengthens teamwork by holding regular team meetings among team members and building and maintaining strong personal relationships with team member families.
• Conducts fundraising events throughout the academic year in support of the water ski program and fosters alumni relations with friends of the Water Ski Team.
• Manages public relations and publicity for Water Ski Team.
• Develops and maintains preventive maintenance program for the waterfront area, including but not limited to the boathouse and dock areas, tracking usage and providing reports as needed and performing inventory on a regular basis.
• Works collaboratively with water sport/craft businesses to ensure proper daily maintenance of waterfront area including maintenance of slalom course, jump course, and jump ramp.
• Maintains and services water ski boat including preventative maintenance as well as annual negotiations for new boat purchase.
• Develops a risk management program for waterfront including but not limited to preventative maintenance, inventory, and safety protocol ensuring proper inspection of equipment, policy and procedural development for programs.
• Develops, maintains and fosters strong personal relationships between members of the water ski community locally, nationally, and internationally along with community partners such as the Lakeland Water Ski Club, and waterways and Parks and Recreation Department in Lakeland in conjunction with the use of Lake Hollingsworth for waterfront programming.
• Builds and maintains strong relationships with staff members of Athletic Department in support of Water Ski Program.
• Builds and maintains strong relationships while representing Florida Southern College at various organizations and conferences including but not limited to Southern Conference and Eastern Region Collegiate Water Ski meetings and fulfilling all related organizational and competitive responsibilities.
• Aids in student, faculty, and staff retention and recruitment, conducting tours when needed.
• Responds to the needs, complaints, and suggestions of students, faculty, and staff
• Abides by local and state regulations as well as College policies.
• Contribute to the success of the department by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or a closely related field or 5 or more years working in the field.
• At least 2 years of successful collegiate coaching experience or equivalent work experience is required.
• Personal water safety and commercial driver’s license is required.
• Must be able to demonstrate experience in working with students as well as the general public.
• Must be able to demonstrate skills in demonstrate coordination of water ski tournaments & special events; demonstrate supervisory and coaching skills; demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and oral; demonstrate ability to create, develop, and evaluate new programs; demonstrate ability to market programs, manage budgets and fundraise.
