Education and Training
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum one year working at the front desk of a medical front office or similar role.
- Experience with patient scheduling systems and registration procedures preferred.
Working knowledge of:
- Patient scheduling software.
- Patient registration & scheduling.
- Insurance verification and basic billing procedures.
- Data entry and database management.
- Office equipment, including scanners, fax machines, and copiers.
- Customer service best practice in a healthcare setting
- Welcome patients, families, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner and verify the purpose of the visit.
- Answer telephone calls, provide information, screen and route telephone calls to the appropriate person or department.
- Schedule patient appointments.
- Coordinate communication with referring physicians and health-care facilities.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits and obtain required authorizations prior to patient visits.
- Perform the patient check-in process that includes:
- Obtain, verify, and update patient demographic information including contact information.
- Verify and update insurance information and benefit changes in the practice management system.
- Ensure completion of the automated check-in process, when applicable.
- Ensure patients sign required patient check-in documents.
- Ensure that signed patient documents are filed within the medical record.
- Confirm that required authorizations are received and filed.
- Collect co-payments, deductibles, co-insurance, and any outstanding balances prior to the patient being seen by provider
- Perform the patient check-out process that includes:
- Scheduling follow-up appointments and diagnostic tests ordered during the visit.
- Remind the patient of the importance to keep follow-up appointments and to complete ordered diagnostic tests.
- Collect payments, including co-payments, deductibles, co-insurance, and any outstanding balance amounts for any additional services that were rendered.
- Provide receipts for all transactions
- Perform end-of-day reconciliation process, including balancing and reporting daily receipts, as assigned.
- Perform administrative and general office functions, including but not limited to copying, filing, faxing, and data entry.
