Education and Training
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Medical Assistant Certification (preferred)
- Minimum of one (1) year working as a Medical Assistant in a medical practice
Working Knowledge of:
- Medical equipment and clinical instruments
- Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems
- Clinical Knowledge and Patient Support: Ability to assist with basic patient care, including preparing patients for exams, obtaining vital signs, and recognizing changes in patient condition to the on-site practitioner.
- Medical Knowledge and Procedures: Basic understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and common clinical procedures.
- Welcome patients by greeting them and confirming the purpose of their visit.
- Escort patients to exam rooms, interviews patients, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document all information in the patient’s medical record.
- Provide patient instructions and education as directed by the on-site practitioner.
- Ensure all related reports, laboratory results, and documentation are available and up to date in the patient’s medical record prior to appointments.
- Maintain exam rooms by stocking adequate medical supplies, preparing instruments, and performing sterilization as required.
- Answer telephone calls, take accurate messages, and provide appropriate responses to patients, providers, and pharmacies
- Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to the on-site practitioner.
- Maintain required logs and perform routine checks (e.g., refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen levels, sterilization solutions)
- Organize workflow and maintain accurate and timely documentation.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies and seek immediate assistance when necessary.
- Collaborate with on-site practitioner and clinical team members to ensure high-quality patient care and service delivery standards are met.
