What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Surveyor - Steel Erection position at Florida Atlantic Ironworks?
Job Summary Met-Con Inc. is seeking a full-time Field Surveyor to support steel erection projects through accurate layout, verification, and troubleshooting in the field. This role is critical to maintaining safety, quality, and production standards across all job sites.
Responsibilities
- Promote and support a strong safety culture with employees and subcontractors
- Use surveying equipment to collect, verify, and present accurate field data
- Establish and cross-reference building control lines
- Layout column locations, anchor rods, elevations, and center points
- Perform anchor rod surveys and verify projections, locations, and plumbness
- Assist with steel alignment during erection
- Provide as-built drawings as required
- Verify building plumbness and square
- Support installation of miscellaneous steel (stairs, shaft steel, crane beams, etc.)
- Coordinate steel placement with other trades
- Assist with troubleshooting layout and field issues
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in Structural Steel Erection preferred
- Knowledge of AISC requirements for building orientation and alignment
- Experience using total stations or similar surveying equipment
- Ability to work at heights from aerial lifts or elevated steel floors
- Willingness to travel as required
