Florida A&M University's Controller's Office is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Coordinator, Accounting vacancy.
Responsibilities
This position is part of the General Accounting section, which is responsible for maintaining accurate and complete financial records for the University in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements, and all applicable regulations. The section ensures compliance with GASB standards through consistent application of required accounting and reporting practices.
Key duties include reconciling financial records and reporting on capital assets; Manage the recording, depreciation, and reporting of capital assets, ensuring compliance; Conduct periodic reviews of capital asset records to verify accuracy and completeness; Maintain detailed documentation of asset valuation, classification, and lifespan estimates for audit purposes; Coordinate with other departments to ensure assets are properly recorded and reconciled across all systems; and prepare comprehensive schedules and supporting documentation for annual audits.
Regularly review internal control procedures and recommend enhancements to strengthen asset accountability; Oversee asset valuation, depreciation, lifespan estimation, and classification; Assist with journal reviews by analyzing entries for accuracy, completeness, and proper classification in accordance with GAAP and GASB standards; Respond to departmental accounting inquiries by researching complex financial transactions, providing guidance of accounting policies; Prepare university financial statements by compiling data from multiple sources, verifying account balances, ensuring the correct application of accounting principles, and assisting with the preparation of supporting schedules for audits; and perform other reconciliations as assigned by the supervisor, such as reconciling subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger, ensuring timely resolution of discrepancies, and documenting reconciliation processes for audit purposes.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of related experience; or master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Positions assigned to this class specification may have additional requirements such as possession of a State of Florida CPA Certificate.
Recommended Competencies
Knowledge of basic accounting and generally accepted accounting principles and practices;
Ability to understand and apply appropriate rules, laws and policies relating to an accounting program;
Strong analytical and organizational skills;
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
Ability to determine work independently and meet deadlines; and,
Advanced computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration or Accounting preferred.

This is an Administrative and Professional (A&P) position.
