Our Senior Estimators lead and support estimates for a wide variety of projects in the markets of higher education, government, healthcare, general commercial building, and industrial. Projects range from hospital tenant improvements under $1 million to large, complex campus developments. Delivery methods include Construction Manager/General Contractor (CMGC), Design-Build, and hard bid.
Duties will include, but are not limited to, reading and interpreting documents, subcontractor solicitation and outreach, quantity takeoffs, bid tab creation and leveling, analyzing drawings and specifications, and reviewing and assisting with proposals and other documentation to prepare cost estimates for various projects. The Senior Estimator will manage multiple pursuits simultaneously and must be highly organized, able to prioritize competing responsibilities, and prepared to independently own assigned estimating functions. Experience with conceptual estimating, preconstruction services, and design management is strongly preferred.
This role is primarily focused on estimating, with opportunities to interact with clients and contribute to business-development efforts. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team within a strong and growing Flintco office, supporting a pipeline of exciting projects for valued clients while continuing to develop their career alongside experienced preconstruction leaders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead and support self-performed, hard bid, negotiated, and conceptual estimating efforts.
• Independently own assigned estimating functions, including quantity takeoffs, project solicitation setup, bid tab creation and leveling, and subcontractor outreach.
• Manage multiple concurrent project pursuits, effectively organizing tasks and prioritizing time to meet established schedules and deadlines.
• Manage the entire bid process, including subcontractor solicitation and follow-through, bid document management, and evaluation of subcontractor proposals and bids. Manage the post-bid process through post-bid reviews, verifying scope of work and pricing within established parameters.
• Review and assist in the preparation and culmination of project estimates and bids.
• Coordinate estimating assignments and review work as needed to help ensure the accuracy and completeness of estimates.
• Assist in the preparation of studies, materials and methods recommendations, and relative cost estimates as required.
• Assist project and construction management teams during pre-design, construction planning, project execution, and project completion.
• Meet with client management, staff, and supervisory personnel to introduce the services, expertise, and capabilities of the company.
• Accumulate, evaluate, and document historical cost data, current trends, and construction procedures and methods to remain current with estimating standards and databases.
• Build relationships with local architects, engineers, and subcontractors to serve as a resource and remain informed of upcoming projects.
• Notify the management group of upcoming project status and approximate timing for company proposals and bid submittals.
• Assist in the development of area marketing plans and goals and in developing strategies for client contacts regarding procurement of work, estimating services, contract negotiation, and future work potential.
• Participate in responses to RFPs and RFQs, as well as presentations delivered to clients for project procurement.
• Assist clients and designers with system selections, budgeting, cost containment, and value engineering.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, bid strategy, and client presentations as required.
• Share knowledge and provide guidance to estimating and preconstruction team members as needed.
• Attend networking and social events and engage as an active member of industry associations and nonprofit organizations while representing the company.
• Demonstrate sound estimating ethics and uphold Flintco’s standards for integrity and fair subcontractor relationships.
• Provide total commitment to continuous process improvement. Exercise good interpersonal skills by gladly assisting others in accomplishing the work of the organization, even when it is outside the scope of regular duties.
• Model and reinforce safety as a top priority of the organization.
• Meet schedules and deadlines, adhere to policies and procedures, and maintain a good attendance and tardiness record.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability
Ability to represent to all persons the Flintco Ethos, which encourages the highest levels of performance, integrity, and morale. Demonstrated experience in estimating and preconstruction is required. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, including plans and specifications, proposals, quotes, and qualifications. Ability to independently perform quantity takeoffs, establish project solicitations, create and level bid tabs, and conduct effective subcontractor outreach. Ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities across multiple active pursuits.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions. Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to write and interpret technical documents such as management plans, proposals, and complex estimates. Organizes and manages time, duties, and activities effectively.
Experience with on-screen takeoff software, BuildingConnected, and DESTINI Estimator are highly preferred. Versatility across project types and market sectors is preferred. Concrete estimating experience is beneficial but not required.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a similar field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
Minimum of five years of commercial construction experience, with the majority of that experience in estimating or preconstruction. Experience estimating multiple construction disciplines is required. Previous field experience and concrete estimating experience are preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
