Field Construction Manager

Position Purpose

The Construction Manager is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and execution of construction activities across one or more project sites. This position serves as the primary interface between Construction and key project functions, including HSE, Quality, Engineering, Procurement, Project Management, and Project Controls, while also maintaining strong working relationships with the Client’s key site personnel.

The Construction Manager provides leadership and direction to the site team, ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established quality, schedule, cost, and contractual requirements.

Core Responsibilities

• Provide functional leadership, coordination, and oversight of all on-site construction operations and supporting functions, including HSE, Quality, Material Management, Procurement, Construction Engineering, and Project Controls.
• Foster a strong construction HSE culture in which safety and environmental awareness are integrated into daily work activities.
• Lead the Project Team in developing and implementing the Construction Execution Plan, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), construction schedule, resource requirements, equipment rental plans, and construction progress and forecasting processes.
• Maintain ownership of the Construction Execution Plan by continuously evaluating project conditions, updating requirements as needed, and effectively communicating changes to the Project Team.
• Ensure direct reports and site personnel understand the Construction Execution Plan, project objectives, responsibilities, and other information critical to successful execution.
• Lead the site team in delivering projects safely, efficiently, and successfully.
• Identify key project stakeholders early and establish strong, collaborative relationships through effective and consistent communication.
• Monitor and control project costs, schedule, progress, and productivity. Analyze variances and implement corrective actions to address negative trends.
• Keep management informed of developments that may impact project schedule, cost, client relationships, or coordination between departments.
• Support the preparation and processing of change orders, project cost analysis, and project reporting.
• Delegate responsibilities and appropriate authority to members of the Project Team to support effective planning and execution.
• Thoroughly review contracts, project scope documents, drawings, specifications, and other relevant documentation to ensure construction requirements are clearly understood and properly executed.
• Ensure all major and minor equipment and bulk materials are identified, procured, delivered, and issued in alignment with the project schedule.
• Develop subcontractor scopes of work, evaluate bids, and provide recommendations for subcontract awards.
• Promote open, honest, and collaborative communication between client and the Owner with a focus on building strong, long-term client relationships.
• Participate in constructability reviews to identify opportunities and solutions that support safety, quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
• Represent client and the Project Team during the bidding process, project scope development, client meetings, and project management meetings.
• Ensure all work is performed in accordance with policies and procedures, the Employee Handbook, applicable work processes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Follow written and verbal instructions and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Essential Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of industrial construction experience, including at least 3 years of direct construction supervision experience.
• EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) experience preferred.
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish trust, respect, and credibility through effective communication, sound judgment, and professional presence.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and work toward shared project and company objectives.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

Physical Requirements

• Occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Sit for extended periods of time.
• Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend.
• Frequently use hands and arms to reach, grasp, manipulate, and handle objects.
• Ability to perform the physical activities necessary to work effectively in a construction site environment.
